  1. Rule #9
// If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.

Rule 9 makes me a Badass, I've done 58 miles this morning in the cold and frost.^_^

and, sometimes, just sometimes, you catch the legendary beast that is a tailwind and the fun starts.

Ah, I have heard of this creature of which you speak - I have found she is a siren and beguiles my weak mind with ideas that I am getting stronger and fitter. But, by God, she is, indeed a fun and naughty mistress when I heed her call.

It has to be pretty dreadful to stop me going out, a bit of wind doesn't frighten me, the only thing that makes me stop and think is ice. A little bit of frost is ok as long as you keep to main(ish) roads, but heavy ice conditions...forget it, it's just not worth the bruises and ripped clothing.

Did 110km in freezing and windy conditions this morning...loved it!!

Just another day for cycling, if it gets to the stage where its that bad I can't stand up then I wont cycle.

that`s the type of weather i`m talking about yet I still see cyclists out in it and they dont look like they are going to work as they are kitted out in lycra and no hint of a pannier lol. As i`ve already mentioned, i saw two riders taking major wobbles in front of me - I knew it was going to happen to one as I knew he was coming to a section where there was a cross-wind - I hung back in my car but a non-cycling driver wouldn`t have been aware of any up-coming hazard and there could well have been a very serious accident

Why shouldn't we go out in it? its just weather, its just something we have to deal with, same as we deal with rain, frost, snow, ice, cold and heat

Sorry, I actually meant riding in wind that you can hardly walk in - i dont mind riding when the wind is "normal" as you know at some point you will get the benefit of it, but to risk actually being bown off your bike seems a bit fool-hardy!

I can't ever recall getting the benefit of the wind. It matters not which direction I go it is always a head wind. It always changes direction with me, so an out and back on an identical route gives me a headwind both ways. I have come to the conclusion it is one of the immutable laws of cycling.

There's no such thing as a tail wind. It's either against you or you're 'having a good day'
i was having a definite head wind today and terrific wind and rain lashing against my face and i had frozen toes and i was still having a good day! i have no idea why it was i good day but then again tell me why it was a bad day  :bicycle:
Cheers Ed
