What I have read about Windows 10 has convinced me to ditch Windows altogether (for the second time) and go back to Linux.
Most people's experience with W10 has been positive from trawling round the forums. Those with problems tend to be the one's who shout the loudest. I found that it took about three days to settle down but now I would not go back.

I tried Linux a few times (I've got an old PC with it but I haven't switched it on for months) and I found it to be a bit amateurish and geeky. All right if you like fiddling under the bonnet, but not for me.

I used Linux briefly and then had a problem - can't remember what. I tried searching online for a solution and didn't understand a word of what I read so tried a few forums, asking for plain English answers. Didn't understand any of that either. I figured Linux wasn't for us mortals who don't talk the talk, and went back to Windows.

Now I'm used to the virtual desktop feature I really like it. It's like the virtual desktops on Linux that I got used to years ago. Once I've memorised the shortcut keys I'll be able to use Windows just like I use Mint.

Quite happy with it. My son upgraded and it took ages apparently on his speed machine - SSD, fastest i7, yadda yadda, but lots of game software. It's upgraded no problems, and no issues with his games.

I understand it's nice to use, but the ridiculous privacy settings make me unwilling to use Microsoft if I can at all help it - it rather betrays their attitude and business model. It's "free" because you're paying for it with personal information.

Exactly what I thought. It looks as if someone has jazzed up Windows For Workgroups. Lots of flat featureless colour and the window controls look antique.

Lots less colour, very like Office 2013, when you get into some menus.

Other than that it's OK. It works fine.

You can turn all that off either be selecting "Custom Install" or going to settings and disabling the data transmission features.

It still betrays the mindset of Microsoft, and I don't entirely trust them.

I'm creating my Restore Drive as I type, just in case I ever want to go back.

Same here. I've been using Windows since version 3.1, but a few things have made me decide to switch to Linux (and use the WINE app if I absolutely have to run a Windows app):
  • I exceeded my ISP's last month's download quota thanks to Microsoft, who put 5+ GB of Windows 10 installation files on my PC, without my consent. Yes, I saw the Windows 10 "reserve your copy" icon, but never selected Yes or OK to any options in its popup.
  • Then I read about how Windows 10 uses your upload bandwidth to share updates with other PCs. As far as I'm concerned, only malware does that!
So I'm just doing some checks to see what I have to change before switching to Linux, then I'll switch. I haven't yet decided what Linux flavour to use yet, but there are numerous good ones to choose from.

Free and paid for with personal information is how things are now. I don't know anyone who'd pay money for Facebook or Twitter but most people I know are willing to give some information in return for a free service, whether they know they're giving it or not.

I'm prepared to give some information if it gets me good services too. It really doesn't bother me. I turned off a couple of things in Windows 10 though.

I have dual boot with Mint and thinking about adding Ubuntu. Unfortunately I use both Itunes and Basecamp which don't have Linux equivalents and I've not found suitable ways to use them using WINE etc.

I'm also in a new world where I can't use the above from Linux but I can't print from Windows!!!
