I made a rod for my own back on row 3 by putting a letter in a place that I knew (or should have known) was already eliminated. That's always a bad start to the day. All the same I don't think I've ever seen todays answer written down with that spelling, although it does make sense for it to be spelled like that in the US.

I got it on the second line after I worked the possibilities and reluctantly decided it had to be the American spelling option that I had come up with.

I don't have a problem with US variant spelling. It's just that in this case it was a variant spelling of an uncommon word, which made it a toughie.
