The stretch of the A5 between London and Shrewsbury dates back to the Romans. I wonder if there are still any Roman foundations deep beneath the modern tarmac?

Cue “what have the Romans ever done for us?”

Cue “what have the Romans ever done for us?”

Reminds me of a dad joke I came up with only a few days ago. I was driving my son and his friend to another friend’s house, called Roman.

My son said “where does Roman live?”

Quick as a flash I answered “not sure but I think it’s Italy”

I then got shouted at by my son. But I know he secretly appreciated the joke.

We'll soon know, given the speed with which potholes are deepening around here in Wiltshire. My best bike is afraid to come out. Just a few more inches and we'll be into the Cretaceous.
