"worst band ever" is a bit difficult, because we will probably have never heard them, due to them getting no publicity. I'm actually surprised at FM typing such a glib subject title in a fit of pique.

Worst music ever by the best band ever is oasis. Can't listen to their music but I love the gallagher brothers.

Band I hate the most because of the fans they attract is Queen.

Band I hate even though I've never heard their music is Genesis, in the Peter Gabriel days.

I also hate Peter Gabriel.

But seriously folks, that old 'posh kids can't rock' thang is one of those really tired and stale things that eventually starts to annoy me. Or were you aiming for ironic retro?

With you on that one old boy, ask David Gilmour!

Yeah, still Coldplay

I can only put this poor understanding of culture down to living in a land where a large percentage of the population must be descended from Prison Officers.

your attempt at insult is ill-directed, historically inept, dyed-in-the-wool and rusted-on stupidity. Where there be prison officers there be prisoners and felons... but I'm sure they left a few of you behind when setting up the colonies of NSW and Tasmania.

But you're right about DK. So Coldplay it still is then. Who's gonna tell 'em?

Why can´t people just enjoy a good insult-fest? It doesn´t have to make sense.

So, yes - let´s have a go at The Clash and The Pogues too - I bet some people think they deserve it!

Knock yourself out...

Bollocks to this talking crap...

And where are those Brazilian Beach babe photos?

The Pogues. I tried, I really did. I even bought the box-set having convinced myself that I was missing something. As far as I can establish the only reason one might watch them live is for the slim chance of witnessing gummy boy finally implode. Music for a certain type of lairy drunken lout. And the fans aren't much better.

All anyone needs to know about Australia is that there is a company called Penfolds that make some really good stuff and the track cycling team is pish, apart from that I am happy with my total ignorance of the place, hence if I want to believe that you are all descended from Prison Officers I will and no number of hard facts are going to change my views:biggrin:

I'm glad we agree about DK, and I'm happy with Coldplay as it has already been pointed out that that this is a race without U2.

Shane McGowan is a hugely talented song writer. The problem is that he is usually too drunk to sing....

Oh I nearly forgot The Smiths (ignoring you two for a moment). They didn't write songs, they wrote dirges to die to. I once bought an album and listened to it on the way to work. I was dead by the time I got there. Only some sharp witted colleagues, noticing my car was not in the usual spot and remembering I'd just bought a Smiths album, saved me. The previous time I died was when someone substituted my Led Zepp album for Leonard Cohen.

The Smiths certainly deserve to be up there with the very worst, it would be interesting to know that had one of there more Famous Albums actually been called "Meat is quite tasty", would they have the same '80s studenty following;)

The Smiths are another lot I never really got. The Pogues, on the other hand, are brilliant.

I wouldn't say The Smiths were brilliant. I quite like them (I've only got the best of) and I think you have to realise that there is an awful lot of deadpan humour in the lyrics. Also if you consider How Soon Is Now? which is instrumentally simply magnificent and utterly original and consider that the sound of the band demands portentous and doom laden lyrics (Jim Morrison would perhaps have risen to the occasion) and then Morrisey comes in with:

I am the son and heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar

Then the penny drops at the brilliance of it all, sort of Noel Coward meets Wagner in an electronic setting. I would suggest that you give that track (another?) go.

nah. It's the usual thing for me, I get the humour and I recognise that they're a clever band, but I just don't like the noise they make.
