Me, I emigrated to Switzerland. As Clarkson once said on Top Gear, it should belong to us. I came here with my job and haven't looked back, I can't think of a better place to cycle. If anything I feel more English here than back in Blighty. There are a lot of ex-pats around, and with an old Sky box from ebay its just like being at home. Switzerland is how I imagine England was in the 1950s, whether that is a good thing or not is another question.

Bin there done that. Are you sure you're up for the back-breaking labour that involves. It's not all romance, I can assure you.

OK then, I'd live of the web in some sort of self sufficient way

how far will tesco.com deliver ???

All my good friends from Uni and friends I gained from knowing them now live in Australia and are 'Aussies'. I was the first of the group to go over and the only one to come back. I get e-mails, phone calls, etc from them on a regular basis asking me when I am going over. I was at one of their weddings in the south of England 3 years ago and it was quite hard as I knew at the end of it I would come home and it would be unlikely that I would see them as a group again as I had no plans to move due to my commitments with work, family, life, etc...

But now we have planned a holiday to Australia for the end of 2010/start of 2011. And the more I think about it the more I think I might use this as a 'toe dipping' exercise....

What is stopping me? Parents in their late 70s who would be devastated. Elder daughter who is 13 and is not too keen. That's it. Mrs Noodley can take (very) early retirement in 2 and a bit years.....I have another 20+ years of work ahead of me.

I forgot: my cats would have to go into quarantine. For 6 months.

The cost would be 12k (you can tell I have looked into this), but the time would be more of a factor than the cost

Australia's great but there are a lot of cycle hating people there as well. It can be very very hot. And again lots of creepy crawlies that either bite or sting you whether you're in the sea, on the land or on the loo.

Where ever I go the climate would have to be much warmer than UK and somewhere where the bicycle was a prominent or respected form of transport or sporting activity and a country where the car has not been afforded the dominance as it has gained in the UK.

The Med seems attractive, but I wouldn't broadcast exactly where just in case you lot all turn up .

We emigrated to Blighty from southern Ireland. Apart from the weather in winter we like it here and would never go back to Ireland. Our other favourite destination is Switzerland but the winter would be a problem.

I'd go to Germany like a shot.

Uncle James is less keen, although he likes the beer. Maybe sometime in the future, but I somehow suspect not. I shall have to just make the most of holidays there instead.

My skills could take me to Cyprus, Spain, South Africa or South America.

I've had job offers in Cyprus and Uruguay, i reckon i'd work in any of them if the time was right, but not emigrate.

The Cypriots are wonderful people when you get to know them (not as a tourist, but as a guest). They live life to the full, are relaxed and family is everything.

Uruguay actually looks like and has a similar climate to the UK, Spanish would be relatively easy to learn, the people are nice and actually quite european in their outlook...but the foods awful.

There's a lot wrong with this country, but home is home and it's where family is. I couldnt easily walk away from that.
