Not long home from another 20 mile loosener. Did 30 on Friday and managed to up my average speed (new computer on bike)
So on this afternoon's ride, decided to go for it a bit! Hoofed it out at a faster pace knowing my legs would blow up on me (still a newbie.)
Sure enough, they did! On another thread, was whining about Hills so figured that getting a good burn going up an incline will make things easier on the hills (I know that's the wrong way around)
6/7 miles from home actually told myself that I was nearly 3/4 of the way around. - then realsied I was already over 2/3rds and decided to try and up the pace again! Doh!!! Took a 20 sec breather over the top of a small rise by freewheeling for maybe 150 yards and decided (with legs on fire) that f**k it!
Did my best to 'sprint' the last 2 miles or so home; didnt manage it but despite the slight incline all the way home, simply REFUSED to stop pedalling!! REFUSED..... and kept the speed up around 18mph despite my legs detaching themselves and clubbing me round the head.
The warm down was at 13mph and felt lovely compared to what went before.
The body is an amazing thing and from memory (was a while ago) I just knew I could do more. Only time I ever puked and physically could not stand or support myself was post rowing. Didnt reach that point by some way so unfortunately, need to bl00dy push more! It is in there for all of us I reckon - psychologically it is actually quite intesresting!
Mind over matter
ps - sorry for long post/ramble and the bit of 'me, me, me' in there trying to tell the story.
