1st swallow of the year today!

Black cap and garden warbler nesting in the garden. Very pleased.

We have heard chiff chaffs but never seen one before this afternoon, just a shame we couldn't get a clear picture of it.

This crow dropped in for some bird sead after another crow or the same one coming down previously and flying off with a monkey nut.

Saw nuthatches in the bluebell wood. Heard loads of birds, chiff-chaff, robin, blackbird, assorted tits, nuthatch. Buzzard landed briefly in the top of a tree

Grand daughter had a peep to see how the blue tits were getting on and can report 9 eggs in the nest box!

Same spot a Song thrush. Nice to see as not as common (round me) as blackbirds and they stick to hedgerow

My day seems uneventful compared to the above.
Been for a 2 mile walk through the woods and lanes. Mostly saw flowers and plants, some were new to me so Mr Google helped me out.
I will list them then add photos.

Not my experience, but read this remarkable story earlier, girl caught a seemingly wild axolotl in the River Ogmore near Bridgend while on holiday. Family then cut holiday short to take animal back home with them to Leicester, I can only presume because they knew you aren't supposed to release a non-native animal once caught.

I'm vaguely aware axolotls prefer cooler rather than tropical water from the Brian Barcyzk youtube channel (they have a few in a tank in their Legasea zoo that opened last year after Brian had died of cancer), but I'm not sure just how cold they can tolerate without googling*, making me wonder if it survived over the winter in the river at temperatures just over freezing or whether it has been dumped by a pet owner sometime since spring began.

* Apparently they can tolerate approx 5C as much as they prefer closer to 20C, as long as temp change isn't sudden and water doesn't freeze.
