Thanks we need to get a more up to date insect book as couldn't find anything close
My Samsung phone has a gizmo which allows me to draw a line around any object and it gives an i.d plus lots of info.
I was interested in Butterflies as there are 85 that are recognised as uk resident.
I looked into moths but iirc there are over 1,000 which put me off trying.

There's a dead tree on the river bank in front of my dining room window. It's currently being investigated by a woodpecker.

Local ospreys at the limit of my camera, on a nearby walk , also saw cinnabar moth caterpillars and (i think) ravens.

Heading back towards home from just north of Upham (Hants) at sunset near Stephens Castle Down, I passed a roe deer, flying barn owl and then a rat within a couple of minutes. Closer to home, near the One Horton Heath project, I had a bat flying alongside me for a few seconds. Can only guess I saw more varied wildlife than usual because I was out beyond twilight for as change.

Had a gravid grass snake try to take my best frog out of the pond, fortunately it got away which was the best of both worlds for me.
Then had a alloy tray from cooking a chicken and it was put on the grass awaiting the return of the bin when a shrew hopped into it and ate any left over bits in broad daylight. I may have gone too far on rewilding my garden and may be at risk whilst pruning.

Last night, 2.00 am, woken by very loud barking roe deer just below the house. Went on a while. I think they bark as a distress call, from the din we must have a leopard loose somewhere.
In other news we seem to have had a rat lodging in the loft. Again. Heard the scratching so put my camera up there. Yep, a rat. I think he/she is climbing up a cherry tree, hoping onto the vine and climbing onto the gutter. Must be a hole somewhere where they get in. Hedge cutter and loppers have been put to use. No sign of it on the camera in the loft last couple of nights. 🤞🙏
