That's a Muntjac isn't it?

It gets a "boo" from me. I listened to a piece on the radio about Nightingales. Their population has fallen by 92% in England in the past 50 or so years.

One of the main reasons apparently is the introduced Muntjacs eating the scrubby undergrowth in woods that Nightingales nest in

I have noticed that about this time in the evenings we get flocks of gulls swarming around Poplar trees. They must be after insects of some kind . Possibly beetles .

I don't think so . It seems to be something specific to Poplar trees and happens late in the evenings, and gulls seem to be the only birds which have found it as a treat .

The swallows come out in the evening and circle lower and lower to pick up the insects. After scooping them up over the surface of the tiny pool, the brave ones turn on a sixpence and take a beak full of water before banking away.

Yes a Muntjac and oh re eating a lot of the nightingales food you learn something new every day.

Unbelievable how they work so fast! At least it was post-flowering.

Cambridge University have/are building a new town/village called Eddington. It’s easy to say it’s Lego land etc..... but they have tried to get as environmentally friendly as possible. We were there today and there are massive wildflower meadows. There was lots of insect life
