I intended a pootle because I don't normally ride after breakfast, usually before. It ended up being a bit spirited - though I say that in a guarded way and relative to my own normal level of activity.

I trundled through a village and there was a young lad sat on the step to the front door. He was maybe 5 or 6. I smiled, winked (not that he'd have seen that, I had my sunglasses on - why do I do that??) and nodded in acknowledgement. He gave a half wave in return. A little further up the road and I hear his plaintive little voice.... 'Allez!'. I smiled. I guess it's in his blood.

Open 10 mile TT. 22:26, a little disappointing as I did 22:18 on this course earlier in the week and a few people who rode that event went quicker today than they did on Monday. Finished just outside the top 10. As a consolation we took the team prize though!

Next week, I will be mostly making pain!

Time for some low cadence brute force workouts! Sick bucket at the ready!

Having got totally wasted on Czech beer last night and erecting the tent at 01:00, our promised early set off didn't materialise. We managed twenty eight miles in thirty eight degrees. Sank eight litres of water and was distracted by flood damage to the cycle route. It's now cooled down to thirty three degrees. 06:00 start tomorrow. ;)

got up at silly o'clock, took the train to waterloo and then rode to Bank... and stood around for over an hour in the chill morning. then waved off by Laura Trott to attempt a world record for the longest line of cyclists riding together... it failed.

it was part of the Ride London events. once that was over, i removed my free t-shirt and reverted to my beloved orange and rode around for a couple of laps of the London circuit. it was pretty hard to find a rhythm due to the amount of people, many of whom had never seen a bicycle before, judging by the riding skills. it was an enjoyable day and the bike performed wonderfully, although i was quite sore and aching, possibly due to being cold at the start and the constant braking and tension as we rode in line.

then i went home, changed into civvies and headed back to watch the Grand Prix events. managed to get a spot by the finish line. result!

3rd of August - 111miles in 6h32m20s (17mph) and 3,222 foot of climbing. It started with a very fast Early Birds Club Run (Peterborough, Awalton, Bullock Road, Great Gidding, Winwick, Clopton, Thurning, Barnwell, Oundle, Lower and Upper Benefield, Clapthorn, Southwick, Deene, Laxton, Blatherwycke, Kings Cliffe, Apethorpe (where it all got too fast for me and I was dropped), Woodnewton, Fotheringhay, Elton, Awalton, Peterborough). I then popped back to the flat for a banana sandwich and fluid and headed out on a wee Recovery Ride concentrating on Cadence (Peterborough, Awalton, Bullock Road, Haddon, Stilton, Great Gidding, Winwick, Clopton, Thurning, Luddington, Hemington, Polebrook, Oundle, Fotheringhay, Elton, Awalton, Peterborough).

Finally got out tonight after a couple of nights off due to laziness, work, dog walking and life getting in the bloomin' way.

I rode from home towards Town and kind of followed the same route as the other night as its nice. Completely lost my bearings at a roundabout and had to go round again. No traffic on it at all, so that was ok. Followed the road into Spooner Row and then went right for a change, instead of straight on. Took a left and followed it to find myself on the road that I started on only a couple of hundred yards up. Followed the road to Bunwell, then took the main B road to Tacolneston then headed back to Spooner Row but turned off to Ashwellthorpe as its a nicer ride. From Ashwellthorpe I took the direct route home.
16.64 miles in 1:06:37 so an average of 15mph so reasonably chuffed with that. Only 233 feet of climbing. I just couldn't be bothered to go and find some hills tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Second ride after my bike fit yesterday. Thought i would go out and play around with the gears after what i learnt yesterday and concentrate on the differences that the fitter made.Took my camera out, in my new Topeak bar bag as recommended by someone on the site ( excellent recommendation) but in my excitement to get out i didn't check the batteries which were flats so no pics today.

I did 22 miles and managed to climb all 4 of my nearby hills for the second day in a row, still can't get over that, and one of the hills according to MMR is actually classified as a climb albeit a 5 but a climb is a climb.Positioning felt much better as i was able to get a good leg extension and a better push through on the pedals. It felt a hell of a lot more efficient that usual.

Did have a minor clipless moment at a junction but managed not to fall or embarrass myself too much, im hoping it looked more like a bit of a slide.

We have one of those very near to me and behind it is a Waitrose. The posh neighbour, sister to Hyacinth Bucket, calls it ASBO and says they will never be caught dead in it. Caught said neighbours husband sneaking out of ASBO last night with 3 bottles of 3 for £10 wine. I nearly fell off my bike laughing. He saw me and looked very sheepish.

Next time i get invited round for a snifter i am going to look very closely at the wine bottles and very knowingly at the husband as we have a secret now, don't we ???:hyper:

Yesterday I took a ride with the club to the New Forest, enjoyed the lovely day and the scenery. A bit of socialising, tea and cakes and the Farm House in Burley. Just a couple of miles short of 50.

This morning Colin from the CTC came to collect a wheelset I built for him all the way from sunny Birmingham. We took a nice ride to hengistbury head and back to test the wheels, 16 miles, he then left for Burley to see the house where he grew up and do some more riding
