Popped out to Geoff Butlers in Croydon after watching the tdf on the tele, ended up buying a lovely white cervelo jersey...

headed home via westerham, and i'm now very pleased that i did, even though it added at least 5 miles of climbing into the journey. as i headed along the a25 towards sevenoaks from westerham, i went past first one then another fully loaded tourers - the second of which yelled after me to ask about camp sites in the area. we pulled into a a pub car park where i told them about the only campsite i knew, but it was back the way they had already come, so of no use. we chatted for a few minutes and they had come from Finchley Park in north london that morning (hardly out of the ordinary) but they are headed ultimately for Istanbul !!  !! they hope to reach Turkey by October or so - really amazing, no wonder they had so much stuff with them !! So i left them, having wished them good luck, grinning from ear to ear - what an adventure they will have

aaah GB my local bike shop, nice guys down their and some fantastic stock.

I saw the tourers as well climbing up a hill at a slow pace on my ride today, i was going the other way so i left them to it. they looked pretty laden down with full sets of panniers on front and back.

i did a 37 miler today, first long ride in 3 weeks, it was hard at the end but i pushed through it. unfortunately i took some bad roads and my avg speed was hindered due to bad surfaces and having to keep stopping at TL's

138 miles, was very hot, I was surprised and there was some steep ascents and one really scary decent even going like 5mph! was called park rash or something. Head wind for about 60% of the ride and a good tailwind on the last bit back through grassington and was bombing along at like 25mph. Did my longest turn on the front today in one go of about 20 miles with the awful wind and then some more turns and on the hills I was faster by quite a margin than the group leader who not long ago was leaving me for dead. Was unusual for me, I'm usually dead after caffe stops but I was faster, the cafe stop was in Layburn at 57.7 miles into the ride.

Was a good ride, 18.5mph avg over the distance but I was dead when I got home.

you should do an Ironman Will  Ironman Will geddit ?
Cannot imagine doing 138 miles  longest I've ever done was a hilly 200k over Exmoor .
Nowadays I dread doing anything over 30 miles I just get bored and a sore buttxx(

Guess it helps a lot with motivation and av speed to ride in a group

Ironman? Ain't that where they swim and run too? I'd never be able to do that, cant swim and running would do my knee in.

I'd not want to do 138 miles on my own, it would certainly get boring, one of the things that keeps me amused is how far people are in front and behind me, then I can challenge myself to catch up with the people who are in front, if there are anyone in front.

Yesterday, 102 miles with Topcat1, Flyingdodo, Handbag, User10571 and PippaG rom London down to Dover. (Report & photos from Topcat1 here in the rides section and from FlyingDodo here ).

Today x30 miles to take me over x6000 miles for the year to date. Not bad considering I set my yearly target back in January at x8000 miles for the year.

About 10 mile out to Ikea and back managed to spend £1100 on kitchen units, wish I had done the CC TdF instead...

An expensive ride

I went round the Forth the long way today. I cycled from Dunfermline to Falkirk to meet up with some great company on the Tour de Falkirk CC ride after a long cafe stop  I came back to Kirkliston with Touche and headed to Dunfermline again for my tea before coming back to Edinburgh.

Did you claim your free tea and cake? I noticed IKEA in Leeds was offering this to those who had cycled there.

Did a steady 26 miler in yesterdays late afternoon warmth, had to choose a route over the higher ground to avoid the flooding at lower levels. Gave me an opportunity to become reacquainted with my stem and remind my lungs their purpose is to keep me alive.

Went for a small (10 mile) ride with a colleague last night. He borrowed another colleagues bike to join me. A 4 week old GT Aggressor XC2. Not quite as nice as my XCR of course

Anyway.. we get 5.8 miles in, and I all of a sudden... "The bl00dy pedals fallen off" he says. I turn around and have a look, and the whole crank arm has come off! who knows where the bolt has gone!

The teeth of the crank arm have partly rounded and we had to walk 3-4 miles back to work!

Yet another big -1 for Halfords assembly and "safety" check!
