A ride last night of 10 miles. I went in and out of the hamlet of Luson, then back home along the coast road

And tonight I did a dozen miles up around Burraton. You can feel the rain coming…

The highlight was a common spotted orchid coming to the end of its glory

Cooler weather today if not as cool as the predictions but sufficient to consider turning a pedal in anger as opposed to with assist; the ebike in the meantime having clambered up a further 3246ft in 42.22 miles.

The Defy extracted from the bike shed and its rear brakes adjusted such that they might work a bit more effectively.

Early parts of the ride were hampered by temporary traffic lights and the first set saw me take to Shanks’s Pony which was indeed faster. Eventually adopted a south-easterly orientation through Pannal and Kirkby Overblow before heading north east to Sicklinghall.

Attention turned to the back wheel which on four occasions the tyre had seemed a bit under inflated. Pump in use only for the valve to stick and expell what had been added before I sorted it. So pump in use again but then the valve unscrewed :cursing: CO2 canister in a controllable valve fixed the totally flat tyre.

East to Wetherby and north west via Kirk & North Deightons and Little Ribston to Knaresborough where on the outskirts I paused at a bus stop shelter for a snack. It was warm; on a leaving I spotted just beyond a bench not previously clocked which would have been a better option.

Through the Nidd Gorge, up the A59 hill and onto Bilton Lane where once again the chain fell off the small chainring – was in a mid gear on the cassette. Chain back on and once into suburbia the only cycling overtake of the day affecting me as a cargo ebike whirred past – first one I have seen locally.

Back onto the A59 and the dodgy road surface on the bridge over Oak Beck was under repair, emergency road works said the signs which seemed a bit of an overkill, so a pair of ramps and a temporary surface to cope with instead.

After the ride discovered the increasingly hated Garmin 530 had not bothered to track the first 2/3rd mile for no apparent reason:evil:. I had started the ride on it as I set off. Think it may be heading to eBay soon.

27.92 miles 1771ft climbed 13.1 mph avg and the chain re-oiled in the hope that may fix the de-chaining issue.

Today's ride was not fun. Rain, hills and headwind.

4 of us headed to birches valley in cannock chase into a nasty headwind suffering a pinch flat after about 6-7 miles then heading up Brocton over the chase to the cafe after 34 miles from the meeting point .
Then it was a blast back with a tailwind pushing the average up

Today I wanted to fit some hills in my ride, so headed out towards Great Wittley with the intention of then heading to Martley, taking in the climb to Clifton and return via Brinsty. Unfortunately even before I reached Great Wittley it was clear that my legs weren't going to be up to it, probably due to some hard riding during the week, lack of miles in June and running park run yesterday all out.

I still made it to Martley via Hillside, taking it easy up the hill. At Martley I turned back towards Broadheath, followed by Bransford and Leigh Sinton. The wind was now picking up, and it was cooler than expected, but the extra effort required sort of compensated for the drop in temperature.

Next head to Upton via Newland and The Rhydd, and from Upton headed home via Croome and Wadborough.

Managed 50.5 miles, but am definitely going to have to take it easy for the next couple of days.

BTW, anyone know why Garmin is now showing Fahrenheit instead of Celsius? My configuration has Celsius for temperature, and it's only the last week or so that it started showing the temperature in Fahrenheit.

Seriously windy day but after two weeks off the bike it had to be done and a cunning plan emerged. Headed eastward to pick up the tailwind and first encountered a team of LEJOGgers on a Peak Tours planned trip for Prostate Cancer (hope you made it to Penrith ok). Then out through Wray, Austwick and Stainforth into the Dales proper with a really supportive wind behind me. Next was the big climb of the day up to 450 masl following the road that skirts Penyghent and it was here I came across the White Rose Classic sportive riders heading toward me in various levels of distress. Their route had just climbed a steep hill I was about to descend and was into a raging headwind. I dropped down to Halton Gill and then the fabulously beautiful Littondale. I didn’t want this section to end but eventually I reached upper Wharfedale and decided to head north to Kettlewell before turning south along the east bank to Grassington. Unfortunately the deli was shut so continued to the cafe in Cracoe. I’d been dealing with nasty cross winds since Kettlewell and they got worse on the busy B road through Rylestone to Skipton. Had a bit of hanging around in Skipton before picking up a train westward and home! 104 km with 1560 m of climbing.

Pictures are of bike getting up close to Penyghent, interesting old filed markings in Littondale, view down Littondale and bike in front of Kilnsey crags.
