The Yin and Yang of life on 2-wheels……..

I’d spotted 2000 2-wheeled miles Year to Date was looming. For someone who could barely walk 18 months ago with knee issues: and who isn’t really a cyclist 🤷‍♂️…..I was pretty stoked at my efforts. And if I’m honest - was keen to let the World of Strava know this Morning - as that milestone clicked by.

Full elation mode swiftly muted by a suicidal wasp who decided to land on my ankle at around 5.10am. Clearly wasn’t happy with my cadence. And promptly injected their sting into me and offwardely fu*#ed.

“Dark” now upon leaving in the Mornings:

It’s been an effort around work / home and other hobbies. Enjoyed them all though 😁

Thankyou very much @ianrauk 👋

Irony is after hating purely road-cycling (For calories burned / Strava stats only) 8-10 years ago……I started again as a way of accessing places otherwise unavailable to easily photograph. And to be some outdoor activity; which is less weight-bearing.

The double-irony now being: for someone who already suffers from SAD during Winter: the thought of long periods devoid of 2-wheeled outdoor enjoyment horrifies and terrifies me !

That and the fact we’re all getting older - is why I’m so keen to make the utmost of every moment. I think I’ve maximised my Summer - around other commitments / work 😁 I’m hugely enjoying ‘it’ right now. And am aware I need to grab it while I still can…..

Appreciate the kind words. Have a great weekend yourself 👌🚴🏻‍♂️✅

IF you don't already have one I'd look to get an indoor trainer .

There are naysayers who say just keep riding outside in winter but it can be invaluable if there is a prolonged icy/cold spell; it's best to have it set up ready if possible so you can just hop on whenever.

I have an old Bianchi on a few years old Elite direct trainer that now has the Zwift cog and click set up;all I need to do is plug it in, make sure the i-pad is ok (do sometimes have it plugged in if it's low on charge and have the phone and i-pods ready plus drinks etc.

The structured workouts are also very good (and sometimes painful!) but it's a good way to keep fitness levels up and you can do as long as you like, I mostly do about an hour or so max.

It's still handy in summer months if the only free time you have is when it's chucking it down or extremely hot.

Something to ponder ! Thankyou 🙏

Slowly bringing my fitness back after a few years out of the saddle, and today was about getting another letter for the A-Z challenge, but I also wanted to do the full Pirbright Military Heritage Trail as I've been slowly picking out bits of it. A very dusty, mostly gravel/trail ride but mostly enjoyable. At 21.68 miles my longest this year, actually since 2022 I expect. Todays ride saw the trusty Boardman CX Team I bought in 2014 to be my commute bike reach 21,000 miles. Bit like Trigger's broom now but still going strong.

For the first time in about three months, I went for a little pootle about on the Dawes
Kingpin. Inevitability, the rear tyre was flat when I liberated the bike from the shed, the tube had a split by the base of the valve, so that went into the bin and new tube was fitted, then off on the ride.

A rather pleasant ride in nice weather, but I have lost the cycling mojo and didn’t stay out for long, just long enough for an ice cream - a mint Magnum since you’re wondering, then home, just under five miles.

In February, this bike will be sixty years old.

At long last a shift in the wind direction and strength away from the stiff north easterly that's made every ride recently a bit of an effort. I took advantage of the slight north north westerly to give a tail wind for the ride home from Diss having taken the train out (which is the reverse of what i normally do). Sunshine all the way and much more comfortable to temperatures to ride in than recently as well with the shift in wind direction.
