Was yours old? It's done about 9000 odd miles and it was second hand when I bought it, so I assume these are fatigue cracks.

I was wondering when it would be time to replace, now seems about right.

Only a few thousand miles - but an electric hub motor and disc brakes. I have a friend who has had the same problem, he recons it's the disc brakes. 9000 is good for a wheel, get it rebuilt or a new wheel, hopefully good for another 9000 miles.

Sunday I rode the "Solway Big Onion Gravel" event. I did the medium route with my eldest lad and his wife - 75.4km 1,364m ascent, 62% of the route off road. A relaxed event where you can ride any bike and deviate from the route if a section's too hard. I rode my gravel converted e-bike. I would have struggled to complete the route on my Cross-Check with my health issues. A grand day out.

In the last week along with three other friends we cycled from Bordeaux to Narbonne along the Canal Gironde and du Midi. A thoroughly enjoyable few days. We stopped at a mix of Logis Hotels & Airbnbs.

We were riding 40 - 63 mile days, whilst it’s largely flat we managed to find a few hills getting to and from accommodation.

I read on here people stating it’s boring, it’s not, although to be fair we were celebrating a 60th birthday.

Went to Critical Mass London today for the first time, also the longest ride I've done for over a decade clocking in at just under 30 miles thanks to me accidentally taking a stupidly long route back to Lewisham from Hackney!
The ride was amazing though, such a wildly different range of bikes and riders and quite a decent vibe all round, I even managed to appease a couple of angry motorists held up by the pack by sharing some of my pack of HobNobs with them lol
Had a stop midway for a memorial for a fallen rider, never realised this was the group behind the painted white bikes I've seen around, was quite touching to see it actually take place though.

I probably won't be able to walk for the next couple of days now, not that it matters because I honestly feel like I'm going to sleep for a thousand years lol

Took advantage of waking early and headed out along the bike path along Loch Lomond, from Luss to Tarbet. Mixed surface that's mainly tarmac although a little rough and gravelly in places. Some is on the old lake road. Most is separate from the busy A road with just a few small sections that run next to it. Quick scenic 16 miles.

With a wet weekend forecast I wanted to make use of the small weather window this morning. I knew that heavy rain would reach us from the south by lunchtime so I planned a route accordingly. The main event was the climb up Cote de Jubilee Tower before the lovely descent into upper Wyresdale. With only light rain falling I decided to have a brief café stop in Scorton before heading home. Some large groups of birds assembling including goldfinch and Meadow Pipit. Overall 56 km with 603 m of climbing.

We all knew it was going to be a damp one today but we got all the way to the cafe (35miles for me) before the drizzle really started and after it was mainly dry to the pub. I was quite glad we only decided to have one pint at the pub because I needed all my wits around me on the solo ride home. The rain had really started and a muppet decided to turn right from a minor road in front of me coming down the hill on the main road. I managed to scrub off just enough speed to avoid them. I braced for impact but it turns out carbon rim brakes are actually very good in the wet 👍

When I got out of the hot shower 🚿 it looked like the skies really opened.

Have the piles of gravel on the road been cleared away since the recent resurfacing? I had intended to ride over that hill (in the opposite direction) with @Pennine-Paul, but we'd had enough of the gravel after doing a gravel-strewn Trough of Bowland, so we headed straight to Scorton.

Much better, they have chipped the section from the summit toward the trough, not the Lancaster side. It felt ok on the descent so they must have cleared up. I turned off at Marshaw toward Scorton so couldn’t see what the trough itself is like. Piles of gravel are a serious hazard and a pain to plough through.

Lol, someone said he'd meet us at the Yaxley cafe, great I thought the cafe after nearly a month is open and headed out the door sharply, but no they are closed the whole of August.

As to the ride it was a nicely paced 56miles up to Empingham in Rutland. Lol, on the way back (on Bullock Rd for anybody who knows it, I think its Roman) we met a sportive or something (50 riders or more), although they didn't have numbers. One of them decided to cycle on the wrong side of the road for ages. Its a good job he met another cyclist as drivers can speed down there its that straight.

1st long ride on the synapse with the club today and it rolls really well on the flat but the weight on the hills is where you really feel it as i was being dropped on pretty much every incline so it definitely needs to go on a bit of a diet , a quick google suggests the stock wheels are 2.2 kg so i may start looking on ebay eventually for a second hand pair of lighter disc qr wheels .
. Some money at the ride as nearly everyone else was on carbon , carbon wheels and electronic shifting and heres me on a 11 year old alloy bike ( its hard to find a weight but i reckon easily over 10 kg )

56 miles in total and i was blowing out my behind on every climb forcing riders to wait but it was still a good ride to antlers in east leake . The forecast was for rain after 12 but luckily i only had a few minutes getting damp in a passing shower.

On Zwift again today and part 2 of the Alpecin workouts; apparently I'm "settling in to camp nicely".
Bit of a struggle on this one as it was low cadence efforts that I always struggle with, also seemed a bit of a lag from the trainer to zwift, dunno if it's Sunday afternoon and Zwift is busy.

I only rode 14 miles today, needed a few bits at the supermarket so went to Lidl to replenish the “Haribo” bucket. I managed to successfully dodge the showers which have at times been heavy.

First proper ride on the new bike today having done some test loops on Friday to fine tune the contact points.
