A very welcome utility jaunt having returned to the city after a tiring and stressful few days at home.
As usual the rain radar made all the difference in giving reasonable confidence it would remain dry once the day’s rain had drifted past.
Once out the city felt like some unfamiliar parallel universe; ever-changing with the accelerating colour shift in the leaves, remnants of the wind, warm and comforting aroma of decay all under dramatic stormy skies.
The overwhelming sense was of quietness both inside and outside my head thanks to the weather likely keeping people in and my new-found solitude.
First stop was the local bike co-op to drop off some tyres for recycling along with some brake hoods bought in error, then on to the park for a reasonable session on the rings – the weather keeping the kids away today, barring one lad and his very friendly Spaniel...
Today’s excursion was rounded off by a tour of the supermarkets; my prevailing sense of calm being shattered upon finding that the large field behind Waitrose now looks like a scene from the Somme – trees butchered, ground carved up no doubt awaiting sacrifice to some god-awful development
Home after a reasonable fruitful shop, glad to be in, still struggling with the clocks changing and not looking forward to tomorrow’s inevitably chilly / possibly wet commute.
