Landguard viewing area for Felixstowe Port - especially when one of the 400m vessels is being berthed - or there's the fort & museum beside the car park.
At the other end of town is Felixstowe Ferry overlooking the mouth of the River Deben - an old fishing hamlet, now more a sailing area and some nice walks up the river by the salt marshes
Between the two is about five miles of promenade or beach access including the Sea Front Gardens
My other three recommendations are the A14 outbound, the train to Ipswich (do not stop and head anywhere after that) or the foot ferry from the Port viewing area to Harwich or Shotley when it runs.

In my village:
St Leonard's Church (the main structure is Norman)
The Bishop of Ely's summer palace
Nature reserve incorporating Pingle Wood and Myles' Meadow
The Bishop Way's trail

In Ely:
The cathedral, including stained glass museum
Oliver Cromwell's House
Ely Museum
Cherry Hill Country Park
Roswell Pits nature reserve
Walk along the river (marina etc)

Other local attractions:
Welney Wildfowl & Wetland Trust
Prickwillow Pump Engine & Drainage Museum
Wicken Fen
Stretham Pump Engine (IIRC the last working steam pump engine in the fens)

I spent my childhood in Winchester. It changed a lot after the fast rail line to London came in the Sixties. Now, it seems a bit pleased with itself but it's still got places worth visiting.

A tour into the roof of Winchester Cathedral (pre-book)
A look around Winchester College
A couple of pints in The Black Boy pub
A walk to the top of St Catherine's Hill
A visit to the city museum to see the magnificently preserved Foster's tobacconist's shop
A walk down the Itchen from the end of the High Street and The Weirs to the Meads

Northampton:

Theres a Grade II listed sofa on a verge in Kingsley. In fact there is (or maybe was) a Facebook page devoted to the roadside sofas of Northampton.

A dog turd of outstanding natural beauty on a footway in the Mounts.

A dead swan of outstanding natural beauty floating in the Nene.

A Grade I listed supermarket trolley in the duck pond at Thorplands.

A local mime artist pretending to be an unconscious wino in the town centre.

A fantastic mystery zone in Semilong where no one speaks English, not even the English people.
You forgot about the anal museum on the road to Northampton.

It's actually a canal museum, but years ago some wag painted over all the C's on the signs leading up to it (in the correct colour paint and everything) and nobody's bothered fixing them, or at least not the last time I passed anyway. I wonder if anyone has even gone there and been rather disappointed in the subject matter?

visited the Minster
I did in 1967, a school day out, with the art class.

However, I live within four miles of Brands Hatch and only went there once, over fifty years ago!

It's been said that the best way to see Reading is in a rear view mirror.
Rather harsh I think, it being my hometown for 43 years, quite fond of it really. I get back there each year, typically for 3 months stay.
Favourite things are cycling/walking along the Thames and Kennet, visiting museums, pubs, the Abbey Ruins, Forbury gardens to name but few.
It's known as the three B's - Beer (Simonds/Courage), Bulbs (Sutton Seeds) and Biscuits (Huntley & Palmers).
Where I live in Thailand is affectionately known as the three F's - Farms, Factories and F*ck all else, but we're only an hour from BKK.

Harder than I thought it would be to narrow things down for Newcastle...

Discovery Museum - Great local history and free

The Laing Art Gallery - Trad and contemporary art

The Crown Posada - Second oldest pub in Toon and has retained its character, unlike the oldest (The George) which is soulless.

Jesmond Dene/Heaton Park - Lovely for a wander

Grainger Market - Old school and cool

The Tyne Bar - Especially when there's music on

If you were wanting to inform visitors/tourists of places to visit in your hometown, what would be your top 6 ?

My picks for Edinburgh -
the Zoo
the Botanics
the National Museum of Scotland
Calton Hill
Holyrood Park
the bus or train trip out to South Queensferry

What would yours be ?

Good list that. I'd add in a visit to Valvona & Crolla, via a mooch around Vinyl Villains. And for a beverage The Jekyll & Hyde, particularly on a Monday evening where you can enjoy a B Movie double bill.

I live in a village of approx 2,500 people. Top attractions I would say:
1. The biggest indoor climbing centre in Europe
2. The biggest inland surf lake in Europe
3. One of the highest rated gastro-pubs in the country. The locals barely go there 'cos the beer's too expensive
4. A canal centre. The local yoof did the obligatory removal of the c from the sign post years ago
5. A really quite large and impressive sculpture park and installation art centre that they decided to name after a planet rather than the locale.
6. On a good day we can see the city where all our local taxes go (& we get precious little back). They've got a castle, you know.
