5000 miles, chain will be worn and the cassette probably. I wouldnt bother cleaning them, just replace.

Do you use wet lube on the chain? try a dry lube, or a wax if youre not going to use the bike outside in the wet, and give the chain a wipe over with a cloth once a week to get rid of the excess lube and top it up when it needs it.

My summer bike gets the chain wiped after each ride (plus a general wipe over) plus fresh lube about once a fortnight.

The winter bike gets wet lube so a clean with medical alcohol and a top up after every ride otherwise it gets full of crud. It gets used in all weathers.

Just bought a dry lube myself funny enough, was going to give it a try as I have a bike that never leaves the trainer. Might actually change the turbo tire as well, making more noise than usual and definitely v worn

I'm top of a Strava segment of CC riders :wahhey: OK, only me and Ryan have done it, and Ryan didn't know he was in a competition ... but even so

I've also made a picture of boobies :shy:
That top time didn't last long. There is clearly a challenge in progress

Need to fit in a ride today between 4 and 6. Looks like i'll go for the 3R Richmond Flat Sprint at 16:05. 9km of all out effort. Anyone else fancy making themselves sick? Too short a race to bump me up to B cat but might ride in B anyway if any of you join the race.

I'll follow that up with a general pootle until the 5 o'clock stage 3 workout. If it's "Jon's Mix" which I think it is, then I'll not be looking forward to the 3x1 min at 385 watts, and the 5 x 10 sec sprints at 681 watts  The rest looks OK ... 2 x 10 mins at 228 watts should be easy, but after that initial sprinting I'm not so sure

Really? Who? Hope it's not my fellow shorty :becool:

Edit: just saw it was the not so shorty @Add :notworthy: 11 minutes faster than me  There's a target for others to properly go for now

Edit 2 : comparing Adam's time to mine, he made 8 mins on me on the first ascent and only 3 mins on the second ascent. The downs we were pretty much the same. On my attempt I tried to keep the first climb controlled to ensure I didn't burn too much on the second climb. Looks like Adam worked much harder on his first ascent.

Very impressive .... but I'm still on the podium :highfive: (for now)

Well my recovery from illness is taking longer than I hoped for.

Back to the doctor today and my chest infection has improved, but I’m now on a second week of antibiotics to try and clear it out properly.

Rode on the turbo yesterday and it was ok. Tried riding a short, steep 3Km climb on BRVR last Sunday but had to climb off half way as I just had nothing left and was short of breath, so yesterday was an improvement.

When I kept things easy around 2W/kg or just above I was ok. I could step it up beyond 3 to 5W/kg for a short periods, but that caused my chest to tighten followed by coughing and some rather unpleasant crap coming up.

The illness wrecked my trip to Flanders. My current aim is to get back riding hard on Zwift and to make sure I’m fit to ride in Mallorca in early May.

Telling you how to suck eggs... but take it easy Del. It’s frustrating feeling like your fitness is slipping away but it’ll come back bud. Get well soon!

How are you guys timing the double alpe climb? Just adding together your two attempts from bottom to top?

Bloody annoying all you lot racing up it. I was planning to do reps for training but now I feel obliged to kill myself racing up it! :headshake:

Adam’s time is going to take some beating for us in the mid weight catergory. Very impressive.

I can complement him here safe in the knowledge he doesn’t check this page much ^_^

there's a Strava segment (but it's hidden so go to the hidden button). Just climb, go around the top and descend as normal then when you pass the climb start place turn around and climb again. Once climbed, just follow the road around the top and descend past the start climb banner.

:okay:
