Well, there's somebody who knows they can smash the ToC distance :okay: How long did it take you (moving time)?

Edit : just saw your Strava feed. Your speed is my target at ToC which should see me finish in about 6 hours (moving time). With the odd stop I should be on the course about 6hrs 20 mins. How did you find that speed/ride? Easy? Estimated ave power is nice and low so I know I shouldn't need to bust a ball all day to do it.

I rode the first 30 miles (2 hours) with my wife who hasn'r ridden for 2 years so I paced her, and the average power was 118W and pace 14.5mph. I did the rest on my own and averaged 17.3mph with average power of 170W. I wasn't riding hard so it is just general fatigue that builds. Fitness wise I felt I could have ridden all day. My knees were getting painful as was the saddle region

done it tonight as i am hoping to do tt on thurs if the weather allows - 41.16
very beatable , couldnt keep up with first group i was in , in a small group till another group caught us and we all were very close across the line , for some reason i thought it was hillier than it actually was , think it is worth burning candles and worrying about hills later

Nice time Lee.
I may have another go and try and see if I can get under 42 min. I will need to latch onto and stay with a group this time.

Ok then I'll discuss!

I thought I'd do really well going into the race because I had an FTP increase last week putting me right at the top of cat C. The race should have lasted about 40 minutes for cat C riders so I was hoping to average around 3.5 w/kg. The plan with the primes was to stay in the blob and half sprint for a solid position each lap saving something for the last lap double points.

With 22 C's in the pen the race was 4 laps of London Classique with a 5-6km 'warm up' before the first lap. Starting the first lap all was good if a little sweaty, group already whittled to 12 riders. Quick first lap but still in the group when it came to the first sprint point and I think I took 4th. Survived to the little bump in the road about 2km from the next lap banner and got shot completely out the back! A lone rider was about a minute back so I eased up and got on his wheel for a lap before he went too. I finished in 13th. Just waiting for the points to be uploaded to see where that first lap put me, hopefully I made the top 10 but might be a long shot.

My avg... 2.7 w/kg I know I sat up but come on. Heat? Lack of hydration or fuelling? Just pants lol?

How do I compare my 20m/ 5m/ 1m etc power to my overall best? I have a feeling the numbers are way down.

You dont have heart rate monitor so will automatically be DQ from ZP results

The course yesterday is very flat, so you will need to get power up towards mid 200's Watts to be able to draft along.

I think it's only A and B that must have a hrm. At C you're fine so long as you don't podium . To podium you will need a hrm.

Ok all you Londoners. I fancy getting a train to Marylebone and then cycling home to Warwick one day. Any ideas on best route to get me out of London?

Driven that route loads of times, never cycled it. There are 2 obvious car routes 1) M1 2) M40 Not sure which roads you would use on a bike, but these should give you a rough idea of direction. Maybe the A5 is an option?

An option, if you have a CX style bike is the canal network. May be a bit slower than road but I'm sure you can do London to Warwick (Wooton Warren certainly) on canal tow paths.

Edit: looks like it's feasible .... https://www.londoncyclist.co.uk/cycling-from-birmingham-to-london/

Unless you want to put in maximum miles possible, I’d start from the outskirts of London rather than the centre. It’s just too stop start traffic lights.

I cycled from Daventry to Greenwich last year via central London. As Whorty suggested, I used the canal tow-path, which got me into central London (I got off at North Kensington). The tow path was fully paved and fine to use on my road bike.

You can see the route I followed here: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2220602626

I'll get another one. I left mine in the shed over winter and it went all mouldy! xx(

See 200 for me is over threshold as I'm light so flats aren't really my jam. However, it wasn't an hour long race so those numbers should have been doable.. I just couldn't. Seeing all those numbers down is so disheartening.

Have I got my fingers in too many pies at the minute? I mean I'm trying to do longer and hilly endurance rides (but haven't rode more than 40m since early Feb) for my summer sportive but I'm also doing a bit of tempo/ interval training and then these short sharp crit types too. Biting off more than I can chew?

One of the biggest problems we have as 'amateurs' is that we don't push our training as hard as we should, and don't take our recovery as light as we should. This eventually leads to fatigue. If you are not getting the miles in then condition is lost pretty quickly as well. I had two periods of 3 weeks off at the end of last year and dropped 30 Watts. It's been a real struggle this year to get those watts back. I'm trying to do one or two hilly routes (at around 3 to 3.3w/Kg) and one >100Km route (At around 2.5W/Kg) a week, everything else is done at 2W/Kg or below I also have one 'rest' day a week as well.

I can empathise with this. Its been a bit of a struggle at times to get past the inevitable power and stamina loss in the run up to my Op and then the enforced 8 weeks off the bike and resultant muscle atrophy with my leg stuck in that brace. Looking back over the last 3 months i can say that pushing hard till it hurt-often when racing-and then making sure i rested to recover were the best ways to make progress. Recovery might take the form of no cycling or zone1/2 depending on the racing or training load. I am not there yet , especially for anything over an hour and like you need to throw in a 100km weekly zwift or IRL ride. So, that DD will be a training ride!
