25th in the end up. V happy as lowest power in top 25 (second lowest in top 50) so still a C grouper 😬

I think I saw @bridgy joining, probably after it started, if so thanks a million or else no one's ride would have counted :notworthy: even if you didn't or Bob or Bram had a technical still a fun race.

I was nowhere near the first sprint and held onto the second group up the first Kom with which I stayed for the rest of the race. Group behind always within 25 seconds but never caught and we picked up some stragglers in front of us. A guy in my group was streaming (if I understand Dutch...which I obviously don't)

So our top three podium spots won't count

😁

Looks like you got a flyer Michael👍

I didn’t. Hovering between 50 and 70th place and then the thread broke after the volcano turn. Ride with a small group and a few is us went off on the first climb. But once over the top they just wouldn’t work to catch a group 35s in front. I asked and goaded a few and one took up the gauntlet and attacked me up the second climb. I had said age and treachery Will triumph over youth and skill given he was only 33y old. He took 4s but my pride was intact after I went over the top 5s in front. I caught 3 others on the down and then went off and chased another 3 down as people tired or just cruised to the finish. Kind of enjoyable despite finishing no better than 60th. How about you guys michael and bram?

Yeah I got home at about 7.35 - ran straight upstairs to quickly get changed, turned on Zwift etc (grateful for quick starting Apple TV!) entered the race straight away....and there I was all alone on the start line! Not sure how much I missed the start by. Although I'm sure the mass start was pretty crazy and with zero warmup I'd probably have been out the back anyway!

I did end up pairing up with one other rider for the first half of the race and we worked reasonably well together, but obviously you get nothing like the extra speed Zwift gives you when you're in a bigger group. I dropped him and a couple of others we'd picked up along the way on the second climb, then picked up another rider who refused to take any turns - so I made sure I out-sprinted him at the end!

Treated it as a good workout, which it was - although more like a TT effort than the interval effort you get from actually being in the race. At least it meant our team still scores points though - hopefully we'll get some stronger results as the season goes on and we can overcome the current shortage of riders which is plaguing us for various reasons!

I see GCN are live-streaming ZRL races from next week on their Youtube channel - prepare your abusive messages @Joffey :okay:

Mrs Legs is away this weekend visiting her parents in Hull. I'm alone with the boys so I think I might try to bash out a couple of the long route badges and challenges after they've gone to bed in the evenings.
I'm going to try the 25x Volcano Circuit tonight - if the lads are in bed by 8pm, I should be off the bike before 11pm...:bicycle:
Is it worth doing it on the TT bike to get the extra XP? I don't think I'll be gunning it - probably mostly Z2 with occasional laps at threshold.

Al it was great seeing you tonight mate. My hiatus hasn’t been nearly as long as yours but I think I’m in a similar boat trying to find my feet again.
Likewise mate. It was just like old times watching you disappear up the hill 😂. I enjoyed that tonight and looking forward to a few more.

If there are any spare places in the CycleChat ZRL teams then I'd be up for helping out.
