Sounds like a fair few of you are going - should be a good one 👍
And good luck all who are racing tonight

I had a blinding flash of the obvious last night. When Zwifting I can't see full detail on the screen because of age-related eye focus issues. So I sometimes put on a pair of +1 reading glasses. But it's not nice riding with those on with sweat drops etc.
I also wear contact lenses -5.5 and -5. So. Doooooh. I realised last night if I can get some -4.5 and -4 contact lenses "just for Zwifting" that will be perfect. Wouldn't be safe to drive, but they'd only be for Zwifting, and maybe close computer work etc.
Can't believe it took me so long to think of that.

You have another couple of options.

Surprisingly, I’ve also found myself getting older and can relate to these issues.

Option 1 is wear a headband when Zwifting with your glasses on. Not only can you look like a John McEnroe or Mark Knopfler tribute act, but sweat is absorbed by the headband and your glasses stay clear.

Option 2. Buy some multifocal/varifocal contact lenses. I use these and they give me both distant and close vision. They centre themselves on the eye. You don’t need any special skill to insert them differently from standard lenses. And you don’t need to buy 2 sets of lenses! And without a headband and reading glasses, you’ll know you’re the coolest guy in the race, even if you’re an old bastard!

Hope that helps!

Although my eyesight was only -1.5 to -1.75, I had laser eye surgery five years ago and, pound-for-pound, it’s the second-best VFM thing I’ve bought (slightly ahead of my Tacx Neo 2T but quite a long way behind Jo’s 100-rupee engagement ring). Eyesight is significantly better than 20/20 - it’s about 6/3 now.

Definitely an old bastard! I've pulled the trigger on the "Zwifting lenses". Think it will work well as Zwifting is a specific activity and I'll probably keep them almost exclusively for that. If it turns out not to be a good solution I'll look at your other two options. Optician floated the idea of varifocals as an option recently, but I don't much fancy it at the moment.

On my outdoor cycling glasses I have one of these small stick on bifocal lenses so I can read my Garmin without compromising distance vision. Works very well.

Glad to see getting your eyes fixed didn’t make you regret proposing 😄👍 That could’ve been Awkward!

I have just cancelled Zwift - partly it is because the good weather is here but also because I want to try the other apps properly again. I have used them all, but not enough and recently enough to see if they are a suitable alternative. I used to use Sufferfest a lot back in the day, but left because I could not ride with my friends. I will spend the next few months trying the alternatives and give SYSTM / RGT a real go and see if I want to switch for good. However, I may get forced to go back to Zwift if I cannot get the people I ride with to switch with me. Personally I think that SYSTM X could work as it gives me both the solitary training and the group rides in one place. Last I saw RGT had a long way to go, but that was back in the day of 2 apps.
