EVR race today on Watopia flat, 4 laps. I didn't recognize anyone to mark for the race, so just going to have to wing it.
Separate pens, but everyone starting at the same time. Found myself next to T. Cartwright in a jumbled mess of riders across A-C. I might have even briefly led the race. I knew that wouldn't last, but it made for an interesting opportunity as I knew I was in *the* lead group. I'd let the fast boys go, but try to stick with whatever group formed with the fastest C rider regardless of their W/KG. Seemed like a reasonable plan and that I'd likely end up in a mixed B/C group that would push me hard.
That group formed and we stayed together for the bulk of the race. Initially we had 7. 3 B riders and 4 C riders (including myself). I think we grew to more than a dozen. A couple riders seemed to hit the gas together semi-regularly, but never were able to make anything stick.
On the penultimate climb through the esses I nearly got dropped off the back, but latched back on and the group slowed a bit for the middling miles of the last lap. Lost the group on the last little climb through the esses and was left all alone for the last mile. The closest rider behind was more than a minute back IIRC. I took it relatively easy for the last mile and did a half-hearted solo sprint at the end.
Around 25th overall, 2nd for the qualified C riders, about 30 seconds back. Best average watts for 60 minutes ever. Though that may be a bit misleading. I think some other races I finished at like 58 minutes with higher wattage. But still happy with that result.
