Lots of drop outs this morning until I worked out what the problem was. I had Spotify running from the PC I use for Zwift. It would cut out at each and every drop out suggesting a connection issue. In fact Spotify was toggling between PC and my phone- which was on mute so I couldn’t hear when Spotify decided to send my 80’s playlist to the phone:rolleyes: no idea why it started doing it but each time it happened I was left alone on Watopia. Ruined my race with a guy up the reverse KOM. Well, not quite. I still won but 15s off my Pb.

https://www.zwiftpower.com/rankings.php

Zwiftpower has upgraded their ELO based ranking system and in near future KISS races intend to use these for Cats instead of the current w/kg system.
There is a basic FAQ on their page which gives an understanding of how things work. Cat A 2500+, B 2000+, C 1500+, D 1000+. From what I understand your initial Cat placement is determined by your best 95% of 20min in a race. You stay in that Cat until either upgraded or downgraded. However, there is an overlap of Cat boundaries. For example suppose you did 4w/kg (95% Cat) in at least one race, then you are automatically assigned Cat A. You stay in Cat A unless you lose 500 pts, i.e drop below 2000 points. Similarly suppose you are Cat B; you stay in there unless downgraded by losing 500 points taking you below 1500 or you gain 1000 points to get an upgrade which requires a ranking of 3000. So those in Cat B could stretch from a ranking of 1500-3000 if I've read it correctly. It's still in Beta at the moment so will no doubt be fine-tuned before implementation.
Personally, I like this a lot. Glory hunter sand baggers will naturally find their rightful Cat over time. Everyone will gravitate towards their proper level assuming they stay active. Not a perfect system but one that should lead to fairer racing.

What do you guys think? Are you in the correct starting Cat?

How do the ranking work? I’ve just had a brief look and I’ve only done 2 races but I’m near the top amongst team cyclechat.

To be honest I’m not as bothered by people racing at a level below their potential as some on here and zwift in general are. I think the lines should be blurred between categories. If a guy who’s near the back or whatever in Cat A wants to race in Cat B then that’s more competition for me. I’m fine with that.

The FAQ tab gives a basic explanation. The Cat boundaries will not be exclusive as there will be a significant overlap. If you look on your profile then click on each race you can see how many points you earned.

Ah ok. I just had a look on my phone but can’t see the points allocated per race. Maybe the ranking system works better after you’ve completed a higher number of races. I can’t imagine many ranking systems where you could be ranked so high after 2 events vs guys who have completed 20+ events though.
