I get that the lighter you are the bigger the advantage going uphill. I don’t get why this means the larger you are the less you should stand.
Forget comparing light with heavy for a sec. Compare two people of the same weight. Assuming both are say 90kg. The one who stays seated longest is better off?
Does he back that up with evidence? Could you link me the blog bud.
A lot seems to depend on the riding styles. Because I ride with low cadence it feels uncomfortable to spin up hills. I just swapped out the rear cassette for a 32 because with a 34 or 1 to 1 I’d rather get off and walk. Just a mix for me shifting down and standing for a relief. Here you are .Tommy

I agree that standing up has speed benefits, but it comes at a price of matches burnt. Just depends where you want to burn them. early or later in an event .
This reminds me of my second week in Tenerife. I was with my brother im law and his very competitive mate. His mate would beat me up most of the climbs with his 7kg loss of weight since last year(now79kg). I intentionally let him go knowing that the last climb of the week was going to be a 2 hr climb. I let him get an early lead, but caught him part way in the final hour. I paced my way to him by staying seated, but to break him, I used multiple 20sec periods stood up to power away, these were for me thigh busting lactate efforts. If these bursts of effort hadnt broken his spirit, I would have had nothing more to fend him off for the last 20mins.

Still a pretty good time @TurboTommy - not too far behind the whippetI couldn’t join the event. It didn’t invite me and I couldn’t find it on the event menu. Bloody frustrating. I did eventually join but late so... bleh....
I felt about as strong as I have since I’ve come back so a bit bitter sweet really. Hopefully I’ll have a go Sunday and I’ll be fresher than after a days work.
Well done all. I’m off to kick the cat!
