And fortunately commonsense has prevailed and she has been released. TDF organisers will not sue either. Down to individual riders/teams now.

GT has risen further in my esteem:

Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe have expressed sympathy for the spectator holding the cardboard sign involved in the huge crash during the opening stage of the Tour de France. Speaking on their Watts Occurring(link is external) podcast, Thomas called talks of the woman being sent to prison for a year as "ridiculous" and joked Jumbo-Visma domestique Tony Martin could be imprisoned for two months.

"Let's be honest, Tony could have moved left, at least a little," Thomas said. " It looked like he saw it and thought, 'I can ride through that'. It's her fault, but at the same time he has a part to play. Put him in prison for two months then, at that rate. That is absolutely ridiculous. She can't go to prison."

Co-host and fellow Ineos Grenadiers rider Luke Rowe added: "She farked up massively. She did something stupid and caused a massive crash, there's no avoiding those facts. But they're talking about a €15,000 fine and a year imprisonment. I just feel sorry for the woman to be honest.

"She is in the middle of all this hate on social media. It was all over Facebook, they were searching for her. They finally got her, take it down to a human level and think, 'that poor woman'. She's going to feel bad enough about it. Imagine being in prison and someone asks what are you in for? Murder? Theft? 'Nah, I went to the Tour de France with a sign that said hello to my grandparents.'"

Couldn’t agree more.

On a side note, I bloody love Tony Martin as a cyclist. He’s just an absolute monster. Superstar in his own right. And then the last few years he’s just the ultimate team mate. The way he pulls the train is really just amazing in my eyes.

It was also pointed out on Ned Boulting's podcast that in a previous race, one of the support car drivers employed by ASO hit a rider who suffered far more physical damage than Tony Martin et al, but in that situation they hushed it up and chose not to allow lawsuits / criminal proceedings etc. against them because it was "one of their own". Sure that spectator did something very stupid and dangerous, but the way ASO were quite happy to arrange a full witch hunt for them, did smack of being a tad hypocritical.

@bobinski , I did Violator as a Zwift workout this evening - omg that is one tough session! If anyone out there is masochistic enough to do 64 sprints in 64 minutes, get in touch and I’ll send the .zwo file across. I didn’t have the Sufferfest vids and soundtrack - I had to make do with a bit of motivational Enya!

I warned ya!

I did Angels tonight and the video froze after 15 min leaving me with a trainer road experience of nothing but a graph and changing resist for 40 minutes. It was grim.

guys this morning I heard some very troubling news… it’s been a tough week for the pro’s at the Tour de France. But I think for us Brits this might actually be worse… I better just put it in spoiler so the faint hearted amongst us can avoid the dreadful news 😬

No news yet on Percy Pig either… I think we just have to try and stay positive! 🤞🤞
