It's that time of year again when I reflect on what I called my "60 Challenge".
When I was 55 I figured that if I trained right I could improve my cycling each year by a bit more than age took away from me. The results so far are in the table.

The all-red 2026 column always looks a bit daunting at the start of the year.
I don't have years of data to refer to, but I am well aware at (near enough) 70 that my best (potential) years are behind me!
The one positive though is that I never made the most of my potential when I was young so I think that with a great deal of effort I could still achieve my best fitness ever!
That would be (say) 25-50% higher than where it currently is. The ideal would be to get to that ASAP and hang on to as much of that as possible, for as long as possible, ideally not dropping back to my current level until my 80s.
That is the plan anyway. Let's hope it is that, not fantasy!
