My recumbent trikes fitted with a Streamer Fairing (Plastic.) will trip the speed sensors you see around schools and just inside the 30mph limit signs in some areas. I suspect you'd need a rear fairing to trip a Gatso, which usually, but not always, reads your speed from behind.

How does a cyclist know how fast he's going? :-s

There's a downhill stretch on my way home.
Tesco home-delivery van stayed close behind me when he could've overtaken. Gave him a thumbs up when we both stopped at the lights and he winds his window down...
"I couldn't overtake you if I tried" he says "Got a tracker on this van, I can't go over 30...you were doing 30 to 35 miles an hour".
"Really?" I said "I always wondered how fast I ride. Cheers!"

There is a speed warning display in a 30mph limit near me which records my speed each time I pass.

Usually it shows 11mph, but if I'm in a hurry it has been as high as 12mph.
there were a few opf these on the Olympic park at construction phase . when walking across site in winter after cycling to site entrance I could get it to pick me up and I got a 6mph once !! couldn't sustain that for more than a minute or so but it was good to see the sign pick me up.
