A cashless society?

I wouldn't want a cashless society, i use cash a lot. I only use a card when buying online and then its always a credit card.
I always have at least £250 in my wallet and always have at least a couple of grand at home, in case i want to have a deal with someone on something. Hard cash is king in many circumstances and i always want to know i can easily lay my hands on some.

Even the cyber criminals are dealing in bit coins. I know someone who's working cash in hand on private land. He doesn't trust banks and hides money around the house in safes. All I know is our local chippy takes cash only.

I have heard that there's been a sharp increase in the use of contactless due to the coronavirus scare and the perception it reduces the risk of cross-infection. Once people get used to using it it could become a habit, and another nail in the coffin for cash.

I quite like cash for many purchases because I resent the amount of information companies hold on me, not just what I've bought, but when and where I was at the time. I want the right to be anonymous and untraceable when I choose to be. Not for nefarious purposes but because that is my choice when going about my life within the law.

I know that I will be disappointed in this as big business will get its way in the end.

Cash won't disappear for a long time yet, if it ever does. there are so many instances where it is more convenient.

I think contactless came along just that bit too late. Other means of payment, mentioned already, are already taking over from contactless.

Cash I'll get from a machine on the day it's needed. Contactless payment amount has been reduced from £30 to £10, reducing the amount that can be taken at each transaction should I have the cards taken again.

We still have a few in circulation, I have a 50p note here too, they are still legal tender, I would not like to try and spend it though

For those that say they never use cash, do you really buy a packet of crisps in a shop with contact less, or a pint in a pub?

as mentioned, a few pubs up here don't accept cash anymore... and there's my M&S carrot (singular)

I still use cash for tips in restaurants, for beer at the offie, and for haircuts. Using contactless is so easy that it makes me nervous.

To be fair, cyber villains are hardly likely to deal in cash.
