Advice on Winter Clothing

I went cycling for 23 miles 2 weeks ago I wore just a t-shirt and shorts and a thin low end cycling jacket. It was cold, windy and started raining. I got bronchitis and I've only just recovered.

I'm now looking for more suitable attire. I struggle to find cycling clothes in my size. I'm a morbidly obese 37 year old man. I've taken up cycling to help with my weight loss.

I was looking at buying this:

But I was wondering what base and mid layers you'd all recommend to go with it.

You can't go wrong with DHB from Wiggle. Great value for the money.

I've got one of these and it is my go to jersey at the minute:

That DHB jersey isn't available in my size. I found this from Sports Direct:

Yes I know its probably not the best quality but tbh I don't want to spend a lot of money because I'm losing weight. I still think I need another upper body layer to go over the Fat Lad at the Back BIB. Something like this:

Don't think the 3XL will fit me so I'll need to find something else.

Stuff from Lidl and Aldi tend to run large on the sizes - I take an L in cycling gear from almost everywhere else, but need an M from them.
Lots of Aldi stores have leftover stock from the last cycling promotion reduced to clear at very attractive prices, if there is one near you.
I've got a few Sondico base layers - nowt wrong with them. :okay:

I have a sondico top and bottoms. They are great quality but more on compression than breathability like the aldi/lidl stuff are.

Being a larger size you may find some good bargains around now if you check all the cycle outlets ie wiggle, decathlon, planet x,
Cycle surgery, evans, etc to name a few.

Ive just bought a jacket, bib longs and bib shorts from here.

Excellent kit for the money. The jacket is very thick fleece lined. Just checked they go up to size 3xl if thats any good to you ???
save paying too much for kit that won't last

Good luck with the weight loss. You will feel a whole lot better for it ;)

Merino as a base layer is great. It will help regulate your temperature even when damp. It is best to try to stay warm rather than dry, so look for windproof top layers rather than waterproof which will boil you in the bag unless very expensive. Layer up according to temperature. You can also remove a layer if needed on a ride when warmed up.

The Fat Lad At The Back is great gear, get on that! Good luck with weight loss, I started in FLAB gear and now squeeze into Castelli!
