Been weighing things up lately, and am seriously thinking about shifting and starting up again a good few hundred miles away from where I live. Where I live now, in West Devon is lovely, can`t fault it, but people in general down here that I know/live close to are driving me nuts, I have a house that is a money pit - I can`t keep up with it both physically and money wise, my job is as boring and thankless as it gets.

There is nobody here that would miss me (probably be clapping their hands), and I live on my own, so nothing to stop me. I`ve always loved Yorkshire and fancy living there, but starting again 400 miles away is a bit scary!

Anybody done a similar thing? I know it`s minor compared to the things some people do, but we all start somewhere.........

I've travelled, worked and bummed around - abroad - for most of my adult life. I'm domiciled in Norway, but not sure that'll it be my final resting place.

I'm too restless and curious to 'settle down' once and for all.

If you're adventurous, or just want a change of location, scenery, culture etc. then make a decision and go for it.

I doubt that's true.

Sounds like you're at a low speccy. Got anyone you can chat/go for a ride with? Living on your own has distinct advantages but everyone needs to socialise.

Up and moving is easier than one might think. Hardest part is the decision, overcoming the 'fear'. The rest is just logistics. But I feel that the motivation to move ought be because you want to be there rather than not be here, unless there are things you need to escape from.

A change of environment is great tonic but be warned, your troubles will travel with you.

I feel like I should have crumbed that sentence into a fortune cookie!

Indeed.

NO, but the idea has occurred to me plenty of times. Just never found the nerve to see it through.

It's not what you do in life that you regret, it's what you DON'T do.

Follow your path.

I moved from Sussex with my wife (at the time ) and two young children, to North Wales. Never regretted it and wouldn't go back south now.

Several times. In fact I make a bit of a habit of it. I upped and left Norwich for Yorkshire when I was in my late teens. I did eventually move back to Norwich - family issues. I then buggered off to North Staffs for about 12 years and then thought "sod this", we sold the house and moved to about 25 miles outside Inverness. We would have stayed but the woman that I was working for and renting from was a nightmare so we came back to Norwich.

I've been 'home' 3 3/4 years now and my feet itch like mad. I'm starting a new job, in the energy industry tomorrow. I've done a day's training and it's 'live' training tomorrow and for a day next week, and then I'm out on my own. The money is good and I can get some money stuffed away in a 'run fund'. Hopefully moved South to Devon/Cornwall ish in a year or so. I'd go tomorrow but I don't have the money at the moment.

Just do it.
