We moved a fair bit when I was a kid. 7 places (including UK to NZ) before I was 12, so I think I'm used to changes. I moved 8 times in London, and have lived in the midlands too, p!us Germany, the US and now France. Been here near on 8 years now, praps the longest I've ever been anywhere!

The moving bit's dead easy compared to getting used to where you are. It's all very exciting at first but life does have a habit of taking over!

I've moved to a completely new location three times as an adult, (few more as a kid, but that was never my decision) including out of the UK and then back, each time I had the security of a job to go to, and my better half to go with me, so perhaps my choice was easier, but I'd say give it a go, be prepared for a not always perfect settling in period, and don't expect instant life improvement, you have to stick at it during the difficult times, and as already mentioned in this thread, rent for the first 6 months minimum, find your way around before you buy somewhere. Been weighing things up lately, and am seriously thinking about shifting and starting up again a good few hundred miles away from where I live. Where I live now, in West Devon is lovely, can`t fault it, but people in general down here that I know/live close to are driving me nuts, I have a house that is a money pit - I can`t keep up with it both physically and money wise, my job is as boring and thankless as it gets.

There is nobody here that would miss me (probably be clapping their hands), and I live on my own, so nothing to stop me. I`ve always loved Yorkshire and fancy living there, but starting again 400 miles away is a bit scary!

Anybody done a similar thing? I know it`s minor compared to the things some people do, but we all start somewhere.........

I'll drop the confucious quotes for a second and explain what I mean....If you are going to do it, my advice is make sure that when you move out of town, you also move out of your comfort zone.

I have moved jobs before because a few things annoyed me and one or two people weren't giving me the respect I felt I deserved. So I went to a new firm with nice people and two years later found that a few things annoyed me and one or two people weren't giving me the respect I felt I deserved.

It was only when I changed career and not job that I struck "happy".

Turns out I was the issue all along.

If you want to make it a change make it a big one or else nothing will actually change.

I sold up about 10 years ago and left the bright lights of Wolverhampton for the south coast we have never regretted it the only thing I miss is the football,speedway and racetrack its a bit of a sporting desert down here

I did just that, moved 700 miles south to escape the ex. Scary enough, though I had a job to go to. Don't regret it.

You remind me of a conversation I had with my dad after he moved to Spain.

" nope, wouldn't change it for a thing, except maybe the grass, I miss green grass, oh and the water...or maybe the television, I do miss the Beeb and then there's the rain, I kind of liked rain, oh and the mountains, I miss the mountains and ketchup and real sausages and....

I've moved a bit during my working life.
From Scotland to Norwich, then Manchester, and finally London. And back to Scotland.
The hardest part was leaving friends and having to make new ones.....but I didn't have cycling then!
I'd say if you feel like it's what you want to do, then do it. The only person you have to make happy is yourself

My ageing parents have just moved 100 miles to be closer to my brother and I, so no. Most jobs in my line of work are in and around London. Never say never but doubtful while parents are still alive. Hopefully for many years to come

Not exactly moving far (5 minutes down the road!) Have just sold my house because I was sick of having no money and an enormous mortgage and had a bit of a "what's it all for" moment!
Decided I did not want to work more hours so we are buying a smaller, much cheaper house with hardly any mortgage and are going to spend our money on bicycles and travelling instead.
Hopefully, if it all goes smoothly, we should be moved by the end of July. Can't wait!

I'm desperate to get out of London having had rare blood cancer and subsequent bonemarrow transplant in 2006 and now been told I have prostate cancer. Just got back from Cornwall and if I had my way that's where I'd be. Life is too short to not do what you want.

Yes, loads and may continue to do so. Right now we're staying in Texas so the uber child can finish school, but once she's done in about 6 years I think we'll look around to move. I fancy Australia for a while.

All started when I left home at 17 to go to Uni, never really returned home after that.
