Anyone got an Android tablet ?

I wouldn't worry about AV unless you are into installing apps from dodgy download sites: anything you get from the official app market will be fine.

And I certainly wouldn't base any kind of decision on what Gartner say. Every pronouncement of theirs I see falls into one of the two categories "bleeding obvious " or "wrong". http://www.gartner.com/DisplayDocument?doc_cd=116445

But you're forgetting their obvious Microsoft Fan-boy slant on most things. It's only cos Windows Mobile became so truly awful that they even looked at Android.

I've tried, believe me I've tried, to justify a tablet but I just can't think of anything I'd use it for. I have a phone for emergency browsing and a PC for everything else.

But I don't need a large display because if I do, I go and use the PC. Believe me, I like techy gadgets as much as anyone else but I can't see any use (for me) for a tablet.

I'd quite like a tablet, but tbh I can and do slob out just as effectively with a laptop/netbook and it has a proper keyboard in case I want to wibble on forums while slobbing

I must concur that slobbing and tablets aren't that advisable, especially as typing a lengthy retort or mass posting would become tedious. The most practical gadget to catch my eye was the Transformer 2 Eee pad thing which gives you the best of both worlds!

The Transformer is great for this and perfect for throne time too but then becomes too easy to forget the time Good for streaming movies from the main PC and watching in bed too.

We could use an hour glass or a gnomon. However too much fibre such as bran flakes or all-bran would add throne time one would say..

Haha I know, I don't take hours but for some reason always take my phone or tablet with me and just stay for a while to pass the time lol it's just habit I guess and thankfully found out it's quite common over on a more gadget orientated forum lol

Most excuses for selling on on ebay are that 'have a laptop so don't use it'.
I'm sure the main advantage with a tablet is that it fits in a school satchel easier.

Obviously the younger you are the less you will mind the smaller screen.

Have my prime on pre-order now. I debated for ages on whether or not I needed/ could warrant a tablet (the want was already there!!). I already have a desktop (4 years old but a 6.9 on experience so good enough), a monsterous laptop for work (i7, 8 gb yadadada), and a decent enough smart phone (ICS is great!). So how could I possibly need one?

My reasoning is that my laptop is that bulky (including PSU it's about 10kg!) because I need to run VM's, my plan is to rebuild the laptop as a server and use the tablet to connect to it. If all things work out, the tablet should become my "work machine" and mean I carry a lot less.

The dock/ keyboard gives extra battery life & screen protection with added usability. I'll try to remember to update how my move goes!
