Aren't cars rubbish?

The smallest main dealer in any given town is probably bigger than the biggest bike shop. Another way that cars waste space in our towns.

Plus costs passed on to the customer? I'll say! What the fark does recoating a headlight do and why's it never done for bike headlights? Simply because it costs as much as some of the most expensive bike headlights?

The plastic lens deteriated due to exposure to sunlight over many years and visibly dulled. This meant that on dipped beam there was a large reduction in the light thrown out and visibility was much impared. The buffing up restored them to their former glory although they were not (to my knowledge) recoated as screenman says he does and they deteriated again over time.

Oh for flip's sake! You mean these huge vehicles that are now too large for many garages (if you have a house that has one - lots of town houses don't) aren't designed to be kept outside for long periods of time?

Re-coating protects the lens from degrading again, my bike lights are coated as are the rest of my bikes bits that will take a covering.

Out of interest what is your hourly rate for doing some internet work for me?

Sounds like you have cars worked out well there.

The main car currently has no working front fog lights. I know this because I tried to use them last week.
Odd. About one in five of the cars I see on the roads where I live apparently have no working front lights except for fog lights. And in some cases sidelights

PM me if serious (edit: not being evasive but I was asked not to advertise just because this site used my libravatar/gravatar at one point) but I'm not complaining about the cost of the people doing the work as much as flaming cars take so much work including some pretty bizarre things not mentioned in the owner's manuals and it seems like most people routinely ignore the cost of this work and the associated costs of the time taking it to/from necessary places.

I mean, a couple of the appropriate headlight bulbs were only £16 when I bought the spares, plus even as a small (200m maybe) diversion from my route to market, it's going to add ten minutes in the shop to buy them ( and five minutes to fit them and five minutes to wash myself before getting back to work because I bet I'll touch something oily under the bonnet because I usually do - plus the same ten minutes yesterday replacing the other bulb, plus five minutes checking the manual to reduce the risk of me breaking something by forcing what shouldn't be forced (not that I've done that before - at least not to this car ;) ). Anything else goes wrong and it'll easily add up to an hour spent on unproductive car-fondling that I could have been earning good money working or getting even better value from the time by riding my bike :bicycle:

Sometime when both bulbs go at much the same time there could be an earth problem. To be honest even though I work on cars I seldom do mine or my wife's, both go in for servicing etc. I am certainly not a car fan.

When I get closer to changing the sites I will drop you a line.

It would appear so.

So you don't particularly enjoy car use or ownership and it is just a means to an end for you. That's fine, but for some people they are a source of enjoyment and a hobby, passion, or whatever, in their life. Some of them can't understand the attraction of jumping on a bike and having to pedal to make it move.
I am lucky in that I am a wheel tart and enjoy any mode of transport. Each one is fascinating in it's own way. I quite enjoy spending time servicing my car and keeping it clean and presentable; sometimes I even enjoy driving it - each to their own! I do the same with each of my 4 bicycles, and a motorbike.

Fantastic cars. We have 2, mrs pplpilot has one as do I, sliding doors and 7 seats are a blessing with 3 small children, I chose one as a company car when daughter number 2 came along, mine is just approaching 4 years old and I've done 127,000 miles and It has had a hard life to be fair, never missed a beat. I shall miss it, we have a change in car policy at work now so I don't get to choose what car I have, they are issuing me with a 5 series estate cock mobile. I do hope they don't forget to order the optional indicator pack along with the anti tailgate pack.
