It were t'other thread.

No point telling me to get run over, work colleagues thought my sprained knee whilst asleep, was a result of a bike crash again... 😴

Happened to me; I was coming out of a slip road and the driver behind was looking to his right checking for traffic and not paying attention to what was directly in front of him - me.

The feeling of entitlement to compensation, first instinct in US is always someone has got to pay. Our culture isnt as bad, but its drifting that way - see Wagatha Christie.

But then you already knew this. But yes its a relevant comment.

An overseas court case based on different legal systems ( Depp & Heard) and different rules has no relevance whatsoever to compensation in a cycling accident in England and Wales.

your new introduction of reference to Rooney v Vardy is equally irrelevant as that is not a personal injury claim either and is decided on different principles and compensation is calculated differently as there is no physical injury or damage

I only had one major "off" whilst being an adult on a bicycle. Came down a hill and took a left turn too fast and bike slid out from under me. Luckily the bus coming the other way stopped quickly. Major bruising and road rash on my leg but bike was ok. I ripped a hole through my hi viz jacket, and trousers. I told my boss about it and she very nicely gave me a voucher for my birthday which I spent on a new jacket

Barnet,
I've had two incidents of being knocked of my bike. Only minor scrapes to me, but some damage to the bikes.
I dealt with both parties direct. One was a company van, and after getting quotes for the damage and repairs the company paid up with no fuss.
The second, the driver did the the same, actually coming to my residence to pay up.
Maybe I was lucky in the respect that both drivers stopped, and admitted liability, I was on a main road, they were coming out of side roads and somehow didn't see me.
You just need to keep calm, if possible, and get things in order.

Solicitors engaged on a no win no fee basis are unlikely to be very interested as there’s no injury (so mo decent pay out for them). They may well suggest you get a quote from a couple of LBS and go direct to the drivers insurers with the bill.
You might be able to do something through your home insurers if you have legal cover?

OtherHalf works for a PI firm, and confirms my first thought that this is untrue. The Solicitors will be able to claim their fees for time same as any other case. They may have a threshold of likely damages for accepting (£1k), but may don't. Without injuries it won't be Personal Injury claim, but a simple Road Traffic Accident RTA claim. Providing you have the other parties details most firms will take the case.

Cycling specialist ones appreciate the value of cycling kit, and the intricacies of road positioning and are better able to make these arguments to the solicitors advising the opposing insurance company. The insurers won't always argue against low value claims, but can do so, and if you contact them directly you may not be able to word things as optimally as possible.
