This morning I took the opportunity to clean my grotty chain:

Result! 2g of grot removed!

Those grommets will probably weigh more than the banished grot... Think of those extra wasted microseconds!!

Got to love the madness hill climbers go to saving a bit of weight. My clubmate used to do it 35 years ago on his hill climb bike. Drillium etc etc, and the frame was steel - it was incredibly light - none of this carbon !

Can't say I miss doing the end of season hill climbs. the same club mate that did the drillium to his bike, 'made' us ride, as we'd usually take the non-sponsored club prize. That pesky Manchester Wheelers and some geeza called Chris Boardman, used to clear up. I used to feel very sick riding hill climbs so fast.

The new brake-only lever arrived today - thanks for the tip-off, @Mr.B-Campag . The DoubleTap lever will be weighed when it comes off tomorrow…

Front mech gear cable and outer save another 34g…

TPU tubes lighter than unstable Conti Supersonics?

The lever that came off was 141g, so 11g saved.



As well as cutting down the bars a little, I snipped off a few cm of brake cable outer.




Every little helps!
I wrapped the bars with 14g of Tesa tape, which has given a lovely finish.


Sadly, though, I was at the point of pumping up the tyres to take it up and down the road for a spin, when the front tubular went pssshh! I’ve got a well-aged Continental Tempo that I can put on for next weekend, but it’s a bit of a nuisance…

I’m nearly done now; I’ve got a Chinesium seatpost coming in the next few days, and I’ll probably draw the line at that.
