Just noticed they have put an expected finish position list up. They expect me to get 31st- this will be based on what I did last year. Not done any relevant training this year - no idea if I'll go better or worse. Soon find out ^_^

I’d misplaced this slotted chain (KMC X11EL) which I’d bought in the summer. Found it this morning and put it on. Only 4 sodding grams lighter than the one that came off, but runs nice and smoothly. Spliced the offcut back onto the old one and put it in a Safe Place, in case I ever want to put a bigger single chainring on.

Last impulse buy (honest!): I’ve hit the button on a 93g Kalloy Uno stem (weightweenies and chinertown say that they’re kosher). It won’t arrive before Monsal Head next weekend, but I should have it on by the time of the Nationals.

Enjoyed it but was 13 secs slower than last year. Came 22nd in a time of 5:30.7

Gonna do Burton Dassett and Edge Hill this Saturday which are much steeper and suit me better.

My Elita One seatpost arrived today, so I’ve fitted that, saving a further 79g. I couldn’t be bothered to trim 50mm off the bottom - most of the weight in this thing is in the furniture at the clamp. Impressively, it came in under the claimed 130g weight.

I trimmed off a tiny bit of excess rubber on the rear light strap (0g).

The Vittoria tub isn’t holding air… so I’ve put on an old Conti Podium (one that I carried as a spare at the National 24 in 2006!). I’m flying in the face of the latest trend for wide, low-pressure tyres - these babies have zero tread and take 170psi!

I ordered some Specialized TT tubulars the other day because, apart from the Conti, I don’t have any spares around. I got a 22mm S-Works Turbo Mountain (245g, for the front) and, if/when I need to replace the rear, it’ll be with a 26mm S-Works Turbo TT (260g).

EDIT

First outing for the machine is at Monsal Head on Sunday. The weather forecast is now giving rain, and I've noticed some small nicks in the sidewall of the rear tubular that's on the PX wheels (as well as experiencing wheelspin because it's got zero tread), so I'm going to swap the fat tub onto the back.

Well I decided to brave the forecast strong winds and rain. Luckily, the rain held off, but winds were a touch entertaining especially at the top of the 2 hills. A few less than when you did it last year - with 14 competitors.

I did Burton Dassett climb a second or two quicker than last year but nearly 40W lower. Wind was behind.

Edge Hill I was 5 seconds slower than last year but nearly 30W higher.

Good luck for your climb tomorrow :okay:
