While cleaning down after today's ride, repair, and fettle, this finally fell off. Looks like it could be made to look smart again, but what to stick it on with, always assuming I can remove the dirt and gunk that's very firmly set onto it and the paintwork?

I just use electrical tape cut to size and the ends rounded off, a couple of layers for added protection. WD40 is good for removing glue and gunk.

I've seen some use a piece of inner-tube, fastened by zip-ties
.

Lot's of MTB'ers do this, looks horrendous. The 3m heli tape is very good, and comes in different thickness - don't buy via a bike shop, get some off ebay.

Heli tape, for those that don't know, is used on the leading edge of a helicopter's blades to protect it from minor damage. Take off and replace.

Sikaflex-591 would seem to be the answer!
I've recently had the door embellishment on my Merc fall off, made of plastic and stainless steel. Stuck it back on with No More Nails...
Worked a treat!

Make a paper template then cut that shape from an old inner tube and secure with contact adhesive. Works well for irregular shapes.
