People in charge of vehicles that size need to be held to exacting standards of driving.

People in such a frail and vulnerable position need to take care and steps to ensure their own safety!

The lady cyclist was very fortunate not to go into the rear wheel arch (watch the slo-mo).

This. I thought exactly the same. Without knowing the light sequencing it's hard to comment on whether the bus should have stopped. If it was a light sequencing when the green changes almost instantly, perhaps there's an argument it wasn't safe for him to stop. However, theres then always the counter argument that he should have been prepared to stop. We could go on for ages.

The cyclist definitely should have checked, having been that far forward especially - however she's only putting herself at risk. As many people have said, lessons to be learnt all round I think.

I don't think any one else present has the right or the duty to pass judgement on the possible RLJ by the bus

Anyone who witnesses a crime or offence is perfectly entitled (and may even consider it his civic duty) to report that to the police, particularly where there has been personal injury or damage to property.
The OP is a witness to a collision and his evidence will be useful to any subsequent police investigation, whether that results in someone's prosecution or exoneration.

Shouldn't the police be given the fullest possible picture?

Being so far in front of the stop line, she absolutely should have checked the traffic to her right.
However, the bus driver definitely jumped a red, and at some speed too. Very dangerous.

When you're taught to drive a bus, you're taught that there comes a certain point when you commit yourself, and if the lights start to change after that point, you don't stop. Yes, you could stop - the brakes on those things are incredible - but you'd end up with your passengers plastered on the front window.

I don't see how you can justify the bus blasting through a red.
Yes, if the bus is close to the lights when they start to change, they should continue (going through on amber) but they should not be going so fast that they cannot safely stop at a red.

Nasty - RLJ bus I reckon. Hope the cyclist is OK.
As an aside, personally I wouldn't have filtered down the left of the bus at the start but waited behind it for the lights to change.

Same here, also worth checking the junction to make sure nothing has jumped the lights.

From my viewing of the vid, I am unable to see if the light is red or amber when the bus crosses its line. I doubt any other can.

As CopperCyclist said above, unless we know the sequence of the lights, it is, IMHO, very difficult to tell if the bus RLJ'd and therefore, if any offence were committed.

Clear cyclist error for not checking junction (how did she not hear it coming??) and clear bus error for jumping that light.
Point taken about 'point of no return' but it seems to me from the footage that there was a sizeable delay between the lights changing (for the bus) and the bus in the junction, so you'd think he'd have had the time. He also goes through on his own with no other traffic so it should have been possible to judge the lights? Admittedly I have no idea how long the yellow is on that junction (for the bus) or what the speed limit on that road is.

Going through a red light - that's an absolute offence. Fail of PCV, fail of court cases too. Mind you, the cyclist also went through a red light, technically, as she was across the stop line.

I'd just submit a Roadsafe report with the bus registration number. That would be enough to get it in the PNC and for any subsequent investigation to have a good chance of finding the video and your contact details as a witness.

Well possibly not... If she went passed the line legally but the lights changed before she had time to cross fully then the only option would be to wait.

From experiences in the past with drivers going through lights to the left and right. If you can't see their light on the video, it is very hard to prove what they went through on and whether or not they could have stopped.

The stop line is probably set back for this very reason. Personally I look left and right when I set off, as you never know who will blow through the red light.
