I recently purchased a bike for £600 through a well known bike shop chain. After the test ride the gears were jumping so I asked for this to be fixed before purchasing. No problem said the assistant, so of he took the bike to the workshop while I sorted out the paperwork. 10 minutes later I had a new bike.

The first ride and the gears were rubbing constantly. A teething problem I thought so back to the shop the next day to be fixed. Once getting the bike back it was a week or so before I managed to get out on it again. When I did manage a ride the gears were still rubbing but not quite as bad (and a spoke came totally loose)so I thought I'd persevere until the 6 week service.

Got it in for the service and explained my problems. Your bike will be ready in a few day a sir. Once again on getting back I took it for a 10 mile ride. Gears jumping galore. Fed up with such a crap service I tinkered with it myself and have it booked in to the local bike shop hopefully for a better service.

I emailed customer services of the well known chain and the reply was laughable. The email wasn't much different to this rant and in no way nasty. "Sorry to hear about the issues with your bike. Hope you are able to get it sorted. "

I think it's safe to say I will not be spending another penny with this chain!

Sorry about the rant.

Write a personal letter to the Chairman of the company, writing the words Chairman's Complaint on both the letter and the envelope. You will be suprised how quick a response comes back when you contact the right people.

No business owner wants unsatisfied customers, however many businesses employ poor quality employers.

[sarcasm] Thanks for naming and shaming the store, it really helps preventing other people on this forum from having the same experience as yourself  [/sarcasm]

Given it's a Norco bike in his avatar and I don't believe Halfords or Cyclesurgery sell them...;)

As above take your complaint higher - If they are the chain I think they are, I believe their Executive are named on the website or jgi

Yes. Name and shame is the way to improve customer services in the UK. I think I know who you are talking about anyway but really you should name them.

Equally, or even more importantly, name and praise the good ones. They deserve this even more than the numpties.

OP's location is Glasgow. I will hazard a guess that the shop has the same name as a radio 2 presenter with red hair, first name Chris? Based at a large shopping centre on the Renfrew/Glasgow border?

If so, I have had previous bad experience of EVANS customer service, which I posted on here at the time. Disinterested staff was my main complaint. I avoid the place now, there are much better alternatives.

If I am wrong about the retailers name this time, too bad. I can fully justify my opinion of Evans. If "ladyinwhite" wants to re-join CC to sing their praises from the comfort of her desk at Evans customer relations dept., then bring it on! ^_^

His hairs not red its ginger!

I feel the staff are only interested until they have your money then they don't want want to know. From the response from customer services it seems that the whole company work that way.

I too will not be shopping there anymore!!

The Wimbledon chaps are friendly enough but I wouldn't buy a bike from Evans...in the same way I wouldn't buy from Halfords...I doubt I would buy again from Cyclesurgery again either, I only did as they were the best price and the size was in short supply

I can't fault Evans provision of smaller stuff though, nor indeed CS or Halfords!

To be fair this is probably a local issue with the Evans store itself. I have had good service from Evans stores in the past but these are London stores. On the second cause for return I would have requested a refund as they do say "No quibble returns" and also on the grounds that the bike was not of suitable quality, had several defects and not fit for purpose. Anyway what made you buy such a crap brand as Norco? Why not go for a Trek or Specialised or another similar good brand which would be much better?

Sorry. This is my first road bike and seems good to me for an entry level bike. I'm sorry you guys don't think its good enough but I'm happy with it.

I also can't remember asking for your opinion on my bike!
whether you asked for an opinion on your bike or not "inthecup" some of the keyboard warriors will still give you one.

its really none of their business what bike you ride mate, just jump on it, pedal it and enjoy it.

and if your still getting service problems from the no-named large chain, take to twitter and shout about it, like i did with EE and Orange, you'll soon get your problem sorted out
