Just think how many lives could be saved if all the ditches were filled in.

Im not sure any lives would be saved. There would, however, be a significant increase in people being found dead on a suspiciously flat bit of ground next to the road.

But back to the thread subject. Due to the nature of how bicycles work, I've always regarded it as a very small window for being unable to control the bike due to the effects of alcohol. Generally you are either able to ride just fine or you fall off off badly. Similarly for drunk in charge, you can't be that drunk if you can ride a bike without falling off.

It’s when you try and ride a wheel barrow home that you know you’ve had too many.

...or a shopping trolley. It didn't end well...

Riding a bike home from the pub drunk is one thing. Going to the pub on a bike in the first place, I suppose, isn't that shocking.

But one wonders why anyone would go to the pub in a wheelbarrow or shopping trolley!!

I suppose if your bike in in for repairs, then a wheelbarrow or shopping trolley would be most peoples alternate steed of choice. Makes complete sense, lol.

A friend was in an advanced state of refreshment, and declared herself unwilling to walk home.
Shenanigans ensued...

These were methods of transport utilised to get home. A rite of passage for anyone who was young once. I am sure, somewhere in the country, this will be happening tonight.

Curious comment! Are we now at the stage of our dissolution as a society that we consider any wrong doing is okay as long as we are not penalised for it?

I smoke weed and ride as well. Not at the same time as my Brompton is too twitchy to take one hand off.

Arguing that it's ok for cyclists ignore the laws that apply to everyone else "Because we rarely kill anyone" might get you some support on a cycling forum, but out in the real world you'll get nothing but contempt and hatred.

So to all urban speeders, red light jumpers and alcohol impaired cyclists who think they are too important to obey the rules, thank you for increasing the dangers the rest of us face every time we go out and share the roads with motorists who think we are a bunch of smug, lawless prats who deserve no respect.

I don't think anyone is arguing that point, because it isn't against the law to have a couple of pints and cycle home.

Contempt and hatred? When I went to get on my bike down my local recently no one showed contempt and hatred. One mate offered me another pint.

I have riden to the pub and riden home
but that was along a canal path and when I got off that I pushed it over the roads ratehr than doing any right turns

There was a "situation" when I was at University and went to a friend's party
on my bike because I used my bike for everything in those days

and on the way home I really thought I should not be riding
so I stopped and got off and lifted my bike onto the pavement
and the back wheel fell off

"Someone" - and I strongly suspect a Welshman - had loosened the nuts on the back wheel so it was wobbling all over and making the bike wobble left and right!!!

anyway - I was ok when I tightened them

but nowadays - i.e. since I grew up - I would walk if I was on a road and had had more than a couple of pints

Sorry - just a thought

what is the point in breathalising a cyclist
OK - someone said it was to shut the driver up in one case - which I can understand

but if the breathaliser system just says under/over then it is not much use to use with a cyclist where the limit is not relevant

I suppose it could remove doubt if they say the only had a coke

but.....

If the police ask you to take a breathalyser test tell them No!
