Today was VO2 max day. I’ve an event on Sat and the AI had given me this one for Wed then a VO2 primer on Friday. I swapped this with the today’s scheduled Z2 (which I did yesterday), and have removed the Friday primer from the schedule. I’ll have a rest day tomorrow.

A 3 x 10 x 30 / 30 after last week’s epic 6 x 9 x 30 / 30. Had 3 mins 30 to recover between sets.

Looks good.

It was supposed to be a Threshold interval session tonight but in truth it wasn’t flat out for the whole of the 12min intervals. I probably could have got closer to the target but with an early commute and then a 50miles TT coming up I didn’t have the motivation to wreck my legs big time on the Workout tonight. I should have also done it on the TT bike but I didn’t fancy a game of Kerplunk, and did it on the roadbike which was easily retrievable instead. Given Ive got a local TT coming up I thought Id better recce the course so that dictated the route. Its not the best of training routes however, as it has too many downhills and the uphills are too short so I haven’t looped round it in a bit. The route was Peterborough, Awalton, down Bullock Road, over the Morborne Bump to the Morbourne village, through Folksworth then down through Washingley to the Washingley cross roads, the TT turns right there back to town but that wouldn’t have gave me time for the rest of the work out so I turned left to Infield Road and that coincided nicely with a rest interval and I was able to soft pedal down to Glatton and get through the village before the next on interval which I mostly got in before the Stilton ob (I did have to loop round its tight roundabout and retrace my route for 2mins to finish). I then had a longer cooldown to Peterborough via the relativley new industrial estate and the Orton Waterville suburb.

Actually it wasn't as bad as I thought.

I stopped as usual for a few more pics on the cool down through the park.

A beautiful morning here - I was tempted to go out on the road at 04:45 but I didn't really want to have to creep around the house getting fully dressed while trying not to wake the family, so instead I settled into a nice sweetspot workout on Zwift (20 minutes at 285W, 3 minutes rest, 20 minutes at 290W). The sweetspot blocks are jazzed up with some mixed-cadence work - alternating 70rpm and 100rpm in the second block - which was some kind of fun.

Five short, sharp sprints on jaded legs brought me up to breakfast time. I tried holding the power up around 1000W for 10s each time, with 50s off.

Today’s 5am fun:

Then I did a 30km race 30 minutes afterwards…
That’s probably me done for the weekend - now mixing kerb-setting concrete for the lawn-edging project…

It will actually be a very big TSS week this week even though I have a race on Sunday. However my "A" Race is Sunday week (Tour of Cambridgeshire) so I assume I'll be tapering more next week

Good luck. I'm racing today also but I haven't done anything yet. Hopefully I get time for a 20min cadenced based warm up on the rollers if not I think the start is a 25-30mins ride.

My race is tomorrow. Looks like we are racing similar distances - I'm doing a 48 mile Road Race - Bizarrely, for my first race of the year it is the British Masters National Road Race Championships

My workout today was on the F2/50 (A428 near Cambourne). TT'ing is one of the motivations to train.

Power was down nearly 40w on my last 30 mile TT and down 11-12 w on my 50 milers on that course last year but I must have been more aero as I was 55seconds faster. It probably should have been faster again but I bit off the bite valve for the bladder at circa 28 miles so I was a bit conservative after that as it was a wee bit warm.

I missed the Giro so I’m just catching up on the relive to see how the pros do it on a hillier course ;)

@IrishAl , I really don’t mind getting up early - we all get up at 6am on weekdays anyway, and my wife and I take turns at the weekend to get up at 6am with the boys, because of course they can’t adjust their body clocks to have a lie-in! My only times to ride are either early in the morning, or in the evening after the boys’ routine has all been settled, but I prefer to spend my evening time with Jo then. The flipside of having early-rising kids is that they’re in bed by 7:30-8pm!

I love the feeling of having done a workout, and having that feeling all day is great!
