Hi,

I like the look of them Kryptonite U (or D!) locks, except I don't trust myself with keys on a tour, ideally i'd like one with a code lock - any suggestions? I can only seem to find the cable locks with codes...

There's a very good reason: codes aren't very secure. It would be a waste on a D lock.

Ebay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230486876369#ht_1683wt_1035

Only 13mm diam shackle however.

No lock is worth having unless it's sold secure gold - even then a competent thief will have it broken in microseconds.

I've never seen a code lock which meets that standard.

The way round this is a hardened chain with a cloth cover on it's own with a good quality combination closed shackle padlock.

The well made padlocks lock up tight and don't have the play that allows you to pick cheaper locks by feeling for the slack when the tumblers are lined up.

The above type of combination will work as well as anything, it won't be light but then again neither are worthwhile D-Locks.

Is such a heavy duty lock really necessary? When I've toured I've always taken a reasonably light lock, and selected a good, visible locking spot. At night I used a small bell attached to the frame and a bit of fishing wire to a nearby tree.

Or you could get something like this
