Re Disney princesses, I found the film 'Pretty Women' an uneasy watch back in the day. I know the film was riffing on that theme, and loads of people enjoyed it, so maybe I missed a subtext or something. I can't help but wonder if it'd be panned today.
Really, why would that be?

I'm sure you know what I meant but just in case, It frightens me (probably not really frightened but you get the gist) that people who have commented on this forum really think Snow White promotes any form of wrong doing from a Male point of view.
For me, the non consensual kiss is less of an issue than the idea that young women need a handsome man in order to fulfill their potential.

I haven't seen it, but the general issue seems to be that it presents prostitution as quite good fun. In reality most sex work isn't being a high end escort swept off your feet by a handsome wealthy man; it's exploited, addicted women or 8 year old girls trafficked to paedos in Benin.

It’s not me that’s feeling outraged or frightened by this story.
Nor me but it's you who have an issue, apparently, with the potential fulfilling, Handsome Man thing?

Agreed the story itself is a load of rubbish, I've explained the frightened reference once, but the comments by real people on here is what I find bewildering.

I think he dislinkes the hamster scene with Richard Gere in the ditectors cut.

Wow,

I've seen it and it came over as a bit of a nonsense fairy tale to me, hang on, so was Snow White and that hasn't gone down too well.

I see It now.

I don't suppose an Elephant's life in a Circus is much fun but Dumbo wasn't a bad film.

C'mon, get a grip.

Has anyone read the Little Mermaid. It don't end like in the film and led to some very interesting bedtime conversations...

Anyway, regarding the current controversy remember that Disney have conflated Snow White and Sleeping Beauty in their film. In the Snow White book, the prince believes her to be dead and just wants to take her back to his palace so he can admire her corpse. Is that any better? She is at least revived and awake by the time they kiss.

In general with fairytales I have to say I'm less concerned with male wrongdoing than I am with female passivity. At least with the more modern Disneys, the princesses are a bit more badass.
