I was going to say the Lee Enfield .303 rifle, but I reckon the AK47 is a better example. I'm not a gun freak btw. It was first brought out in 1947 and is still in use around the world. It's inexpensive to manufacture, easy to maintain and reliable.

This is good one too if you like 30s buildings - Morcombe's finest...

I was thinking of sending that in.
It stood derelict for years, has only been renovated in the last few years. Haven't ventured inside it yet, though. It has a splendid view across Morecambe Bay to the Lake District hills.

I always loved the shape of the Catalina, a very specialised aircraft but not one I would class as an enduring classic.

The 747, on the other hand, has been in service since 1970 and has probably affected the lives of more citizens of this planet than any other single aircraft. I think it certainly deserves the title of enduring design classic:

I read somewhere that the average 747 has spent 75% of its lifespan actually in the air. So a 20 year old one, of which there are any number, has been actually flying for 15 years. Amazing.

Since it never really took off (in more ways than one), calling it enduring design classic is going to be a bit tricky.

Nevertheless, it is still fascinating to look at how much bigger the composite laden and computer designed Airbus A380 is than this wooden end-of-war beast. The answer is? Not much.

Are we just posting buildings and stuff we like now, then? Most people I know hate this one, but I've always loved it. I even like the scrolling display board...

Had much fun with this classic design in my youth, setting fire to my brother was a pleasing way to pass the time

Ugly ugly ugly... I hate the south bank complex...it's horrible! And no, it isn't just buildings... I tried to move it into haircuts a few pages back...

The Spruce Goose technically took off, but it was only flying in ground-effect:

As for the South Bank complex, I love the area for what it is today, but the buildings are ugly with a capital ug.
