As a Norwich fan I couldn't agree more SJ.

We are endlesslesly compared to them right now as a team no-one had heard of ( because the cosy, golf playing cabal of Lineker / Hansen / Lawro / Shearer etc don't seem to watch non-Prem games.

In reality our manager Paul Lambert beat us 7-1 at home as Colchester manager in the 3rd division 2 years ago on day 1.

We immediately poached him and have been promoted twice to the Prem and occupied a top 10 position for most of the season.

Yet we get endlessly compared with Blackpool - and doom mongerers suggesting a plummet to relugation.

Paul Lambert is probably the best young manager in the country - he's not a Warnock or Holloway who were never Premiorship material.

The "Fink tank" in the Times a few weeks ago showed Lambert had changed his tacitics more than any other Prem manager this season.Holloway was just attack, attack, win the odd game unexpectedly but mainly lose, comedy press interview.

Got to agree. He's been very impressive. His tactical nous is excellent and seem's to get a huge amount of work and effort out of the team and got them playing exciting attacking football. Chelsea would do well to take note.. and slip Drunken Delia a few sheckles for him to replace our totally inept coach.

I see the press have thrown some old shoot at Stuart Pearce already, they just can't help themselves can they!?

I have read in the past that Harry has little or nothing to do with day to day training and tactics at spurs - the coaches Bond, Jordan, Ferdinand, Allen do all that. Harry's forte is man-management and motivation which is why he stands half a chance of being a decent England manager.

p.s. Sweden were tough to beat but that was many moons ago.

You will find that in modern football, you get all kind of people taking the training and helping with the tactics. (even SAF at Man Utd relies on people helping with the tactics) Having said that, you can easily see Harry directing the orchestra from the touch line which will indicate he is well aware of what he wants from his players.

You are right, Harry does have that reputation, being rather good at man management.

It does seem that it was a while since we played Sweden but I don't think things have changed much at all.... Croatia is another team that comes to mind..... even Switzerland make it hard for us. The point I'm trying to make is that on paper the players on the England's team are highly rated and highly paid at premiership clubs while some of the teams we have to face in competitions have players playing in the premiership where they are not so highly rated (there are a few exceptions)..... in other words, one would expect with the players we have we should do a better job.... at least on paper ^_^..... how many times we are told the salary of one of our players would cover the salary of the full team on the opposite side? Yet. on the pitch, one can hardly notice the difference - Very frustrating phenomenon I think. I don't see Spain suffering from that phenomenon though ^_^

This is where I think it comes down to desire to play for the national side. JT, Cashley, Rooney et al all say the right things "It means more to me than anything blah di blah" but when you see them on a pitch it's obviously different. You don't have to look very far to see the difference, look at the passion and effort that Giggs and Bellamy put into playing for Wales. With our lot I'm always surprised they bother turning up when it's raining

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
In all seriousness I think when there is clamour for a "stick-on" for a job ala Harry it doesn't necessarily mean they are the best candidate for the job - your point that he has only managed one "big" club kind of makes my point - how does this qualify him to manage Engerlandshire? Being able to joke and control the press only takes a manager so far, seems to me there is a distinct lack of english managers with top level european experience. Strikes me he should be given the job on a temporary basis to see how far he can take them in the summer, if he makes a mess he goes back to Spurs - no harm done.
Well I totally agree that there is a lack of English managers. It seems to be a result of the Premier League being so successful that when a vacancy comes up, clubs automatically look abroad for a manager who has won something and the english managers rarely get a shot.

He isn't English but David Moyes is a great manager IMO yet he has no chance of winning anything where he is.

I think your idea is a good one but I think that would be too sensible for the FA, they will panic and sign someone for a 3 year deal.

Giggs has rather the opposite reputation wrt Wales IIRC.

Spot on, he has never been interested in playing for Wales. Always pretended to be injured when obviously not. A complete and utter toe rag he was when it came to the Welsh team.

I am struggling to care with this topic.. honestly.. but just can't seem find the passion.
Asterix the galled...All I know is that park footballers shout and swear a lot, and pro association footballers run miles in any given match, get arrested from time to time, and some of them know how to twit. Spelling 'Capello' has stumped many a predictive text, and the nation is coursing into Spring on a wave of 'Arrymania'. The Times list of popular children's names will be 'Rosie' and 'Evasion' when published in December.
But it's a funny thread.

Were you puffing on your pipe when you said that, Mr Cholmondeley-Warner? ^_^^_^
