Good job lads!

Just been visiting my Dad there. They were still running on the back up generator for main generator. So the patients are getting dry sandwiches as not enough power to power anything other than lights and essential medical controls.

Is that their football ground? I know they are playing Welling City today as a friend is one of their supporters. Apparently they are collecting for Carlisle at the match.

City? Went to watch them once, when I was about five. Never been to a (pro?) football match since.

But my sympathy is with you all in the area affected.

Just tweeted by the Beeb (Cumbria)

"Some good news for Carlisle. Engineers now don't need to shut power off to 5,000 properties after protecting a key electricity substation"

Well done to all those working in such dire conditions
Good man again!I can now empty the Thermos flasks and a 94 year old veteran of the war(who is taking all this in her stride!) can have freshly boiled water with her tea:smile:.Mind you,it just goes to show the value of the web,and also, how out of the loop many old people become through no fault of their own.I went to check on an old lady who lives nearby, only to discover that her phone is dead.It seems to be a fault which has happened at the worst possible time, but has meant that people concerned that she is not answering her phone, have physically checked on her.Blessing in disguise then.I have been wondering all day about those alone, the elderly and the homeless, how frightening all this must be,and how fortunate I am that the only real inconvenience may have been a power cut. What too of those who have been unable to obtain home insurance since 2005 or 2009?Sorry,rambling a bit,-a poor combination, random thoughts and a keyboard !

All dry here, thankfully, but other parts of the city have been hit hard.
Hope your bike's OK @furball
Good,very pleased to hear it:okay:

Just a quick thanks to those who have posted on these pages, better information here than on the news. We are OK because we are out of the city but sods law has decreed that we need a sparky to check a circuit that is blowing the other's. If we get one out tomorrow we will be extremely lucky.

+1.Hope you get sorted asap:okay:.

All sparkie's up to their eyeballs. Took the bike out for the first time for ages to Tesco at Rosehill. It's flooded (wasn't the last time) Have to go over to Newcastle on Friday to hand in my portfolio to the university, keeping my fingers crossed that the the trains or / and buses are running. I just don't fancy starting off about 05:00 and riding over.

I tried to get over to Darlington this morning. A66 was shut, but roads to Carlisle were open. The Bypass was one long traffic jam though. I gave up and went home. Hope the water is dropping off in the towns as well as the country roads, but there's a lot out there to go, and there's going to be lots of cleaning up to do. Not a good Christmas for many, and the shops (especially independents) are going to take a real hit.

My poor old mum........
Power went off about 2300 Saturday and wasn't expected to be restored until Tuesday evening. Miracle of miracles....power on this morning 0500. Apparently Electricity NW brought in about 60 industrial generators.
But...1700, power off again. Network has failed. Back to headtorches and banana sandwiches

Hope that's sorted soon @nickyboy.

In other news, the C2C route is pretty badly damaged near Keswick
