I'm disappointed that the train situation seems the same as reported a while ago. Unfortunately as I have to work the Sunday I can't risk cycling back to London. I'm sure the truly adventurous hard core riders will go on this ride and it will be a classic FNRttc and SMRbtl vintage.

I don't think I'll be of much help. I can help out with beer. Things drafting of the beer variety are easier than on the cycle.

Everyone is mentioning Southern Rail but First Capital Connect run out of Brighton. Might be worth a look to see if they have the same bike restrictions for the Olympics.

They don't say anything on their website. I'll try and find an FCC bod to ask when I'm on a train next. It has been pointed out that Southern provide the staff at Brighton station, so could well scupper any plans for getting on anyway.

Could be worth seeing which is either the first station northbound which has no-one working there, or has FCC personnel.

I'd get on at Brighton TBH, if FCC allowed it. I really don't see how the staff would stop you. After all you are getting on a FCC train.

Having said that the FCC staff are not much better. Tried getting on the train the other day only to be told to get off as the train ran over into peak time. Try again, this train stops at my station at 0657hrs - the guard did not even apologize.

But as I said earlier, there are Southern staff on Southern trains, and they might get into trouble if they let a bike travel. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that tbh. It's a crap ruling, but they've been told to enforce it, it's not their fault.

Sorry - I meant the above to then get on an FCC train - assuming of course that they don't also bring in restrictions.

You can take your non-folding bike on Southern trains out of Brighton during the Olympics - according to Southern's own website. Here is the relevant page:

Only as far as Gatwick - or if you can avoid Gatwick possibly all the way in. This appears to blatantly contradict the other published stuff. Are people going to end up waving different pieces of paper at each other as to what is or is not allowed? I'm now thoroughly confused.

bloody hell, just done some diary checking and thanks to variously birthdays, olympics, holidays and being slow, I can't do another FNRTTC til October's Felpham ride - that sucks, unless I can MTFU enough to do the super speedy at the start of September....
