I shall be riding back as usual, hanging on to the tail of team fast. However, I give due notice, I will not be taking the Devil's Dyke option. I hate that road!

Good idea Ian. And as we ride past Balcombe station I can reminisce when, on one of my first century rides, I was within a gnats whisker of throwing my bike in the ditch and getting a train home.

Just sent the e-mail for the ride. Now mulling over whether to use the upright or the recumbent. I haven't done Ditchling on an upright yet.

Do the ride on the bent and then, on reaching the top of ditchling beacon, borrow a proper bike, roll back down, and do it again. Best of both.
For me ditchling and "best" are not associations that first spring to mind. I was raised Presbyterian but that's taking the protestant work ethic a step too far.
(With me Presbyterianism never lasted after the "raised" bit, but the perception that any enjoyment is indulgent hedonism is remarkably resilient. Perhaps that why I like cycling.)

I'm considering breaking my duck on this ride too. The speed and distance doesnt bother me, my main worry is the sleep deprivation.

How do people cope with working all day Friday, riding a bike to Brighton and staying awake until mid day on Saturday? I worry I'll fall asleep on the bike.

It's easy. I did a day's work, caught a train from Leeds, pedalled to Brighton, drank beer when I got there caught the train home - easy peasy.
