Ride to Cardiff? From Bicester? On a Friday? 133 Miles? Plus the other 60 odd miles to Swansea You are having a giraffe ain't ya?
Rode up last year from Pompey. 157 miles. If you can do a ton, and you have done, you'd be fine for this. Teef's right about the bridge, crossed it twice last year. Worth doing.

Try to think of it as an adventure. It might help, maybe.
Ha! Engineering works between Bristol and London, diversion via Bath Spa = tiresome. Trans-Siberian 'Express' = adventure!
Cycle overnight from Cardiff to Swansea = enough adventure (for me).

Anyone else booked on the 12.28 from Swansea?

Right Then! The gauntlet has been implicitly thrown down, I may very well ride from Pangbourne to Walescestershire then get the choo choo back to Reading, whereupon I can ride back to Pangbourne for a bit of shut eye before heading back to Bicester.
Confused? You will be, after this episode of SOAP.

I have just mapped a route.

Does that look like sensible route?

If you can get to Wantage, then a nice route to Cardiff is shown here.
Yes, nice.
Malmesbury is a must for the bimble to Cardiff. Why, one might even encounter a wing walker if one is fortunate enough! There's a Co-op on the High Street and an old shed in the village square to sit in (and get dry, whilst troughing all sorts of wrapped delicacies), before getting further soaked, before the chill breeze from the water helps you dry out. Of course, unstoppable shivering on the inside creates a bit of heat too, but don't worry, you'll soon warm up as you'll be chasing the ride all the way to the first Tescos...then the rain will stop. The sky will have run out of water by then, and there may be one vibrant sausage roll left in the hot cabinet at aforementioned Tesco. If you're lucky.

Considering the lack of activity on this thread compared to other FNRttC threads it would appear that no many folk are going on this ride.

It's not going to be a massive ride, and will almost certainly be smaller than last year due to the change of date, and there are people that will be missed, but there will be a nice mix of FNRttC regulars and off-CC locals. I'm looking forward to it. The forecast looks pretty good. The finish is, along with Whitstable, the best of any FNRttC. From there it's only one very small hill to where the beer is. Those in England abed shall think themselves accursed etc.

I am procrastinating at the moment about whether to come along, the faff of the jouney to Cardiff and back from Swansea is ticking my "can I be really arsed with this?" box. I need to make my mind up.
