We haven't decorated the house and expect no visitors at all, but those that have will, probably 🤷‍♂️

Honestly, that's now the go to rule around here in Surrey. The kids trick or treat at any house sporting pumpkins etc, and leave those alone that are not decorated. The message is generally - enjoy it with the people who are willing to enjoy it with you, and leave the others alone. Mind you, I have some neighbours that could do with an egging

I really enjoyed Halloween. Every year I make an effort to find out it's history only to forget it a few days later. This year, I started researching it again only to remind myself not to bother.

We set up a crepe's van, loads of fireworks, and socialising then went trick or treating. I lost my costume at a party the day before but luckily the new costume came in time which went down a treat (darn it why do these puns always come at the most inopportune times). I have another couple of parties to attend this week.

Commercialism? Heck, it's the only time I get to try on something different and still look normal.

Yep- that worked perfectly here; local kids were out from 5pm but we didn't get a single knock on the door until we put lanterns on the step nearer 6pm.

Like others, I despair at the amount of plastic waste generated by these calendar events. We recycled old costumes and had the usual bucket of treats for local children. The awful weather earlier meant we hadn't decorated the front of the house as normal, but I projected spooky video clips on a sheet in a window instead; that worked very well.

The weather was horrendous last night, but some parent's were dragged out in it. First time we've not put pumpkins out (most of the family were away this weekend) and we just had one doorbell ring, which was ignored as we'd not got any sweets in.

We carved pumpkins with my neice and the rest of the family on Saturday afternoon, it was fun. We totally forgot it was halloween last night; we were in bed watching TV after a hard days work, and didn't hear a thing apart from the odd firework!

Honestly, it's getting worse. We really need some younger people on here, the grumpy arld git sentiment just drips from almost every posting.
I think I'd read upthread, there's a lot of posts from folk somewhat sick of all the soon-to-be-dumped plastic tat flogged by outfits just using it as a promo. Despite your efforts to be down with kids I think you will find that a lot of younger folks share these concerns. And some may be"grumpy" women.

Nope. I completely understand the comments about plastic tat. I'm talking more generally, you must surely have noticed there's a general shift to grumpy sentiment on here. And 'down with kid's? Get a grip

We need younger members or this place will die, maybe it already has.

Hallowe'en schmallowe'en, when it comes to planet-killing crap there's really only one game in town. Remember the ships stranded in the Suez? Crammed to the gunwhales with...

Not wanting to get up and answer the door every five minutes does not make you an old fart. If people want to do Halloween then do it with like minded types and don't bother everyone else.

And the reason we don't have many young people on here is because cycling has become an older persons hobby. Outside of talented racers who think they may have a future very few teenagers bother at all.

I’m glad it’s over. Just need silly bang bang night over with & it’s a steady run up to the C word then. 10 days off work will do me.
